And it didn't feel right. I stopped at Atwoods and wanted to look at the compact in 40. All they had was 9mm. The compact had the flush fit mag in it. I didn't have anywhere for my pinky And it felt top heavy big time. Now that was just a quick pick up and feel. But I still want one.

Then grab it up and get a pink ext. Might also feel differently after it's loaded.

I have a 9c. Make sure you try all three backstraps this will help you get a good feel for the pistol. I have shot mine with the flat magazine and had no problem keeping it on target. If you can rent one to shot do that also help you to determine if it is the right one for you.

have to fully load mag to really see if its top heavy my 40c is not top heavy at all

i'm not fully "comfortable" yet with the hold on my 9c unless i'm using a FS mag and extender piece. That gives me a somewhat similar feel to my .22's i have more range time with, not to mention better accuracy with it compared to the flat mag or even with the pinky extension.
Much of that could be my lack of 9mm experience so i wont downgrade the 9c because of my newbie like concerns.

I have the pinky finger extensions on both mags for my 9c, only way I like it. Shoots very well, best 9 I've ever had, and I've had lots. For some reason I'm quite accurate with it.

I have a 9c and a 40c and neither one feel top heavy in my hand. I have used the flush mag also and I prefer the mag with the finger grip but it don't really make a lot of difference in shooting of the guns.

Tsk, Tsk, Tsk, NEVER touch them. I don't even let the LGS take it out of the case. There is NO KNOWN cure........:D

I have a.40 FS and a .40c. Both feel great.

I contacted the GAP floor plate company about a year and a half ago and they e-mailed me back saying that their GAP floor plates for the M&P C-series would be released very soon. Has anyone spotted any yet? I know they work great on my sub compact Glocks for locking my fingers in place, Just wish I could get them for my M&P 9c and .40c.

If it's not on their website then I doubt it's out there yet. I remember when they were promising XD subcompact owners a GAP plate and it never happened. They took awhile to get the G19 version out as well, so maybe it would take a lot of requests to get one made. Wolff does the same thing. They don't make a new spring unless they get enough requests for one.

I did make something close when I had my 9c. I used a FS floorplate, ground down a ramp area for the bottom finger and then filled in the void with melted paracoard. It worked pretty well so I posted it all over forums including this one. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures, but below is someone with the FS plate on. Just imagine a nice curve from the front of the plate right up to the bottom front of the grip.

If he just held it in a lgs then it will feel a little top heavy. once the magazine is loaded there will be more weight in the bottom, when empty its just a big open space. Even a full size feels a little top heavy when unloaded.

Ok so the wife ordered my"surprise birthday gift" this evening. She consulted with me first to make sure it was what I wanted. I'm glad she did. I made sure of the model number they were ordering. She doesn't understand why I prefer a gun with out a safety. It will be a carry piece and face it. The safety on the compact is not by any means as unnoticeable as the shield. This will be my third M&P handgun. I'm so excited. The lgs will call hopefully in couple days and I will go pay the 475$

Congrats! I love my 9c and the husband is rediscovering how nice his 9c shoots. Both of ours are out cc guns. Truthfully I think my 9c shoots better than my 5" Pro's and the husband is beginning to think so too. The 9c is a great all around gun, which is hard to find. Usually one is good for SD but is not good for distance. Or is large enough to be a good range gun, but is too big for CC. The 9c comes as close to being the perfect gun as I have seen. You will enjoy it.

Just do yourself a favor and stay away from a Shield. ;) :D :D

Ask me how I know.....

It's kinda weird I like the full size and the shield but the compact does not feel right in my hands

I called S&W CS and they sent me a few pinky extensions for free. I can shoot it OK with the flush plate but prefer a full grip. I have a few xgrips to use with the full size mags.

I'll probably get some pearce grips for my Shield. (so Hillbilly77, it's too late for me!!)

It's too late. I already own a shield, love it. My full size, love it like the girl that stole my heart. I can't get enough of my full size. I carry it when I can.

Not a problem Hillbilly. I have about a 4% interest in a 9 Shield and zero interest in a 40 shield.

Agreed!! I have ZERO interest in a shield. The 9c does everything the shield does and it holds more ammo. My 9c is easily as accurate as the 5" 9mm Pro I had. I've never seen a 9c that wasn't a great shooter.

Me too! When I went to buy, I handled all 3, full size compact and shield. The shield just didn't feel comfortable in my hand. Wasn't necessarily looking for a carry gun though. Love my 9c, feels great, shoots great. And if I want to carry it, it's an option.
