I was at a local gun show today. They had nice wide halls, small crowd and a few guns. I walked up to a table and a guy was looking at a model 61 Winchester with what looked to be a period side mount Weaver scope. It looked to be pretty decent with a small scratch on one side of the receiver. The dealer was asking $750.00 for it which I thought was plenty for a drilled and tapped rifle. Being my normal nosy self I remarked it was too bad it had the extra holes in it. The dealer said it's not drilled it's a grooved top.

That quickly got my interest up, so I stood back and watched the negotiation. The customer got him down to $700.00 but was unsure about buying it. He asked the dealer if he would put it below his table while he looked over the rest of the show. The dealer said sure if he paid for it. The guy stood there holding it trying to make up his mind. Up until then I had been patient watching, but I told him to ease his mind he could just lay it down on the table and not worry about coming back later because I was going to buy it.

I got by cheap today, but I just missed a pretty nice 61 Winchester.:)

You get a commission? :D

Well OP,

You're a lot nicer guy than I am.

If that 61 rated at 95% original, I would have said nothing,
let that guy walk away, and dropped seven Benjamins
on the seller table and told him to wrap it.

It wasn't 95%, but is was well worth the $700.00. I have some nice ones and really didn't need it.......but, you know.
