Depends on the milieu and social stratum-and you, yes, don't paint with too broad a brush.
My church celebrated its 300th anniversary in 2023, we had a catered friendship luncheon. When it ended we started to clean up after ourselves, the caterers said we'll take care of that, we replied this is what we do. I attended the 250th anniversary at another church, a service then a luncheon, I stayed to help with the cleanup. I often think the decline in manners is directly related to the decline in church attendance.
I attend a nearby synagogue every know and then, since my Christianity-like The Man's-is firmly rooted in the Old Testament-I figure I might learn something. I sit by the doors on the right side facing the raised area where the Ark of the Covenant is. One service I saw an older lady with a 3-wheeled mobility device in the door, I got up, asked her where she wanted to sit, she told me she couldn't enter until the Torah Scrolls had been carried up to the raised area for the reading. "You're a dear." she said.
I was on a day trip in NYC years ago on a winter day, heavy snow, piled up, walking past one of the ritizier hotels a limousine pulled up, 3 gorgeous girls-models-tried to get out. I played the gentleman, assisted them-the last one squeezed my hand.
