My son gave me a Canik TP9SA for Christmas, said I needed something more than my revolvers. Went by Academy this morning and picked up 4 boxes of Blazer brass 115 gr. and 1 box of Monarch 124 gr. JHP(cheapest HP's they had) to try it out at our log pile range at a friends place just down in Mississippi. Ran thru all 250 rounds in just a little while, no problems at all except loading the two 18 rd. Mec Gar mags that came with it(old worn out fingers). The 115's hit just a tic high, but the 124's were spot on. Got back home and looked this pistol up, and all the reviews and videos were positive about it. Think I'm going to like it. Does anyone know anything about this pistol? Will be awhile before I would consider carrying it, but it does shoot well for me. The trigger is very smooth and crisp, with very short reset, and I can feel when it resets.
I know it's "not a S&W", But--------

I bought one on a lark once. It was okay, although the trigger was obnoxiously plastic, meaning the mold line went right down the center of the trigger. It is a large pistol, too. I sold it after a short time, as it didn't do anything for me. I would think it was a good cheap automatic for someone on a budget that doesn't foresee using it as a concealed carry weapon.
I tried some of the Monarch 158gr .357 mag ammo and was pleasantly surprised. Accurate in my 19-2 and not as expensive as most. I may try some of the 9mm. You said it hit POA. How was the accuracy and what was the distance?

I was just trying it out and and wanted to see how well it would feed the ammo mainly. It was shooting everything MOP plate at about 20 feet and blew up several Coke cans. Rifles are for long range shooting. I am very happy with it. I keep several boxes on hand of Monarch .38 Special 158 SJHP. Cheap, but all my revolvers shoot it very well. In a self defense shooting, ain't no judge going to give any credit for long range marksmanship. I do handgun practice up to about 20 feet. Might try shots at 50 to 60 feet on occasion, just for the heck of it. I'm just an old redneck, not tactical or hip.

I joined this forum to get more nformation on the S&W SD40VE, and found it had an unsupported chamber, so that turned me off of that.
Now I am looking into the TP40V2, the double/single action one. Hopefully it has a supported chamber?

I wouldn't worry about the unsupported chamber. Been shooting Glock 40s&,w for years. It's probably the poster boy for unsupported chambers. My only problem is the cost of ammo going up (over the years)

One thing about 9mm is if you watch for sales, ammo for plinkin' doesn't cost that much more than quality .22lr. =fun.

I have 9 as well. It's my main handgun caliber. 40 is the second. It still sucks paying $270 +/- per 1k rounds

Um, does the PT9SA have a supported chamber?
What's a supported chamber? All I know is it feeds everything I've put in it so far, and it will hit where I point it. This is my first semi auto handgun.

I didn't tell you not to worry about anything. I stated I was not worried about it. Watched the video and learned what it meant. The TP9-SA has a supported chamber. Took the barrel out, dropped a round in the chamber and the case body IS supported 360 degrees at the start of the extractor grove. No so-called Glock Smile on a fired case. The TP9-SA doesn't even need a "Trigger Job" or a plastic guide rod replaced. Very good shooter out of the box. By the way, have you ever played cards with a kid.

As far as cheaper cost foreign handguns being inferior reminds me that so many RIA run perfect right out of the box, but a Kahr says it needs a break in of maybe 500 rounds to be reliable.
I have a $350 Taurus PT92, you know those 50-50 junk guns, that has ran perfectly right out of the box.
My point is if it runs great right out of the box then why slam it? Just goes to prove sometimes what we get for our big bucks is a big name not a better gun.

I fired, conservatively speaking, about 50,000 rounds through the unsupported chamber of a Glock 23 (the same Glock 23) over about 15 years. It was probably more. I had one failure, a broken slide lock spring (the old style). Get over it . . .

it is an excellent pistol and is IMO the best value for your dollar on a striker fired polymer pistol.
don't buy into the haters who think more money equals better quality, I own a few 9mm striker fired pistols , StyerM9A1, Glocks, 17L, 19, ruger American, and a canik tp9sa, and have owned many others. and I just have never liked the M&P series smith polymer guns at all
the canik holds its own with any of them, that I have ever shot,
the Glock 17l is a competition gun from the factory, with a 3.5 lb trigger, my 19 has a aftermarket 3.5 lb trigger
the canik trigger is better than any of them as it came from the box.
my first 5 shots with the canik were at 21 feet from a supported shooting position and gave the type of grouping 1/2" one hole group that you would expect from a target pistol costing a couple thousand
dollars or more and that was with silver bear Russian 115gr ammo
it is now over 2000 rds. without any issues and as accurate as it was the first day.
my youngest son was a die hard Glock shooter and competitor in the various pistol classes using clock 19 and 34 in idpa and the 17l in the open class, he now competes with the TP9 as his idpa gun and we are waiting on there newest model the tP9sfx and looking forward to its arrival in the gun stores
some people don't like the decocker switch but it has never been an issue with us and I like the ideal of having a pistol that can lay in a night stand with a round in the pipe and a dead trigger that can be reactivated with a 3/8" slide move
enjoy the pistol, others have paid more for a so called brand name and don't have as much gun
as far as an unsupported chamber my son has a 35 glock that has seen literally thousands of 40S@W and probably almost as many rounds of 357sig with no issues
