What are you all finding to be the best cartridge in your 15-22? I liked the copper plated mini mags and just wondering how stingers do and anything else/ i should stay with high velocity?

The term "best cartridge" might mean different things to different people.

Federal Bulk, in my experience, runs well in mine. That means it doesn't cause jams and it goes bang when I pull the trigger. :)

Federal Bulk doesn't seem to bring any degree of accuracy with it.

Federal Bulk is about the cheapest stuff I can find.

I haven't found anything in the 15-22 that crowds the accuracy of my old and very stock Ruger 10/22.

Federal Bulk isn't the "best" ammo for my rifle....but it is cost effective and makes pulling the trigger fairly painless. :D

well i think we all agree this is no target rifle although i will post groups once my douglas barrel comes in.... so less pain and alot of bang in my book gets the federals ranked pretty darn high on the list

Thanks all

Of course I should have been more specific about what I meant by "best cartidge" or as wifey calls boolits.... but consistent feed fire and eject was my definition of "best":)

You getting an aftermarket barrel for your 15-22?

ya i got a blank on the way.. so ill see if it make a difference these s&w barrels r very "loose" on a air guage.. im guessing its because they r designed to shoot a butt load of ammo fast(less friction=less heat... less heat = less barrel fouling)

For general plinking and reliability (not for accuracy)
#1 CCI mini mags (solids or HP).
#2 Federal and/or American Eagle 40 grain solids. 500 round packs (10 packs of 50), not loose bulk.
#3 Federal 36 gr HP bulk pack (rounds packaged loose).

years ago, I used to like Remington Golden Bullets, but they are definately not what they used to be.

For accuracy, I prefer Eley or Wolf match, but in generally I only buy a pack or two of this every now and then to see just how accurate my rifle really is.

Most of what I buy is Federal 40 grain solids. Other than CCI mini mags, they are one of the only .22lr cartridges that function reliably in ALL of my guns (both pistol and rifle), that are reasonably priced. I love CCI mini-mags, but they can be a bit cost prohibitive if your are not buying a case (at least compared to the federal loads.

IMHO the Federal Champions in the loose bulk box are the best value for the money. I've shot nearly a box full with not so much as a single hiccup. At $24 a box it beats the hell out of most other ammo by a mile.

I have run CCI Blazers. $17.99 for a brick of 500(?). Only had one misfire in 1000 rounds. Comes packaged in individual boxes of 50 so you can carry some with you if you do any walking while shooting. I also like the plastic tray as you can count how many you have taken out, it makes it easier to remember how many you have loaded in the magazine.

They are a standard round nose lead bullet (no copper cover) and are about average for cleanliness. After 1000 rounds it was time to clean. The barrel looked fairly clean but I could see a few small specs. A pull of a bore snake and it was spotless.

I have also shot the Winchester Super X in this rifle ($8 for 100). You can tell it is a little faster than the Blazer by the sound. It is also a copper plated hollow point but that doesn't matter much to me. I have only shot about 30 of them through the gun but they all fired.

I'll try some other brands next time I purchase ammo. I've never seen the Federals on the shelf in Wal-Mart and I didn't want to pay $25 buck for them at other stores. I'm happy enough with the Blazers to use them for plinking but the Super X are too expensive to waste.
