I could not find the best place to ask this question so to the moderator please feel free to place in the appropriate area,

As a new member here I appreciate everyone dating and giving backgrounds on others "treasures".

I hate to go to the well too often and would like to do preliminary checking on my own. I have 15 Smiths from accumlating them over the years.

SO, what is the best reference material I can purchase or access?
