I read several negative posts on here about experiences with Altamont stocks. It made me worry about the ones I recently ordered but I got them today and I'm very pleased with them. The fit, finish, and feel are great and the price is nice.

Someone asked for the thread where I read about the complaints. A Google search discovered it for me a few days ago. There were two or three complaints about them here:

I'm very pleased with the ones I got. The only complaint I have is that the S&W medallions look a little cheap. I paid about $90 for the Hogue wood on my SP101. Of course I got all the options with them: finger grooves, checkering, accent stripe and butt cap. I love that stock but I didn't want to spend quite that much again. The Altamonts offered checkering and grooves for about $60/70. I also like the more solid feel the laminate offers.

All in all I would recommend either Hogue or Altamont. They are both nice and I'm glad I have both.

I was happy with mine, no issues and were great to do business with.

I just put a pair on my Model 60 and, to me, they look sweet!

Nice to hear something good about them. I've actually put off buying a set because of the bad reviews. They look good on the stainless and drop dead gorgeous on the 586. The prices seem more than reasonable.

Altamont stock grips

Folks I have the Altamont grips on my new Performance Center 1911 and I love them. Thats what Smith installs on the 1911 Performance center 1911.

i have a pair of altamonts on both of the j frames i own. they're better than i thought they would be when i ordered them. as far as i'm concerned they look beautiful.

Doesn't Altamont supply the OEM wood grips for S&W? I thought I read that somewhere. I also ordered a set of the standard checkered, with silver medallions, in walnut, for my 617. I'm hoping on getting delivery by this weekend.

I have two sets coming from Altamont. I hope there are no problems. If they are made as good as the set on my Colt I will be satisfied.

Yes, and in that thread, there is one poster who joined on February 2012, and has posted only once since then to whine a me too complaint; hasn't posted since. Mistakes can and will happen, no matter what you buy, and from whom. My experience so far with Altamont has been nothing less then stellar. :)

My Altamont grips (aka "stocks" in S&W lingo) are super too! Need to buy a similar set, in Rosewood, for my 686 soon.
