I Like Sardines

When I first moved to FL smoked mullet was sold almost everywhere. I couldn't believe people eat this! I was using it as crawfish bait in La. before I moved there.
Mike, there is a restaurant in Pasadena near the water, that my friends eat smoked mullet from there on a daily basis.

Yep Ted Peters is a great place for smoked fish.

Hahaha..best thread on the net right now..you folks done throw'ed a'crav'n on me for some canned finger fish...with some good Louisiana hot sauce on a soda cracker...washed down with a Coors!! Ummm!! What we having for supper tomorrow night??

My granddad used to make sardine sandwiches with the mustard packed variety. And yes, I remember there being a lot more in the cans. Haven't eaten them as much since being a kid and having lunch with pop pop. We also used to eat a lot of salmon cakes made from canned reds. Ate oodles of breaded fish sticks too. The kind that had more fish than breading. School cafeterias served them up every Friday. All fish was a cheap source of protein back then. Not so much now.

As long as we're on fish, I should note that farm- raised salmon served in restaurants and sold in stores often contains carcinogens.

I mentioned this to a restaurant manager. He admitted that he knew, but said the parent chain forced all franchises to offer it.

Canned salmon still seems to be wild caught fish. I check the label.

Don't eat 'em very often, but I do like 'em. Reminds me though that I haven't had an anchovy pizza in a while. Think I'm about due for one of them. Haven't had any pickled herring in ages, but I can wait a while longer on that.
