I miss the good ol' cars...

Ahhh....Lucas electricals....

I had a '68 MGBGT. Spent 3 weeks out of the month on blocks. Rebuilt the generator and starter on a regular basis. I never had a problem with the SU side draft carbs, though! Anyone here remember how to tune wire wheels?

I had a 74 MGB in college, saw a 72 model the other day for sale and almost stopped to see how much it was. I do miss that car.

This is the first antique car I owned, a 1943 GPW. Restored it from the ground up while station at Ft. Campbell in the late 80s. Sold it a few years ago, still have a 1945 MB. Not long after this photo was made I install a live Browning 1919A4 on a pedestal mount.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: if I could be magically transported back to 1963, the only thing that I'd really miss would be the current medical technology.

Cell phone? I barely use mine.
Internet? There were libraries back then.
GPS? I can use a map and compass and can even do some rudimentary navigation using the stars.
Guns? The 1911 was already old in 1963.
Fashion existed, even thugs dressed nicely in 1963.
Air travel still had some class associated with it.
Men still wore hats and ball caps were worn bill forward.
A semester's tuition at a decent school was just a couple weeks pay for a working man with a decent job.
Ray Walston was the only illegal alien that we worried about.

I was 14 in '63. When I was fortunate enough to attend a Chicago Blackhawks hockey game even I, at 14, wore a tie.
My dad had a suit for funerals, weddings, and hockey games. Now people wear shorts and t-shirts to funerals and weddings - They don't dress up that nice to go to a sporting event.

If I could go back I would want to take air conditioning with me. Maybe it existed for some others but we didnt have it. For style I liked the cars from the mid 1920s to 1940. I bought my first and so far only, "New" car, a 2007 toyota avalon. We had looked at a bunch and frankly ease in getting in and out of was our biggest concern. Even this one is too small to get in and out of for us. We have only about 50K on it and had it 5 years now. It just sits, is our trip car. We use our trucks most of the time. The toyota hasnt gave one problem, drives like a sports car, gets good mileage etc. I still dont love it. Buying cars now days is exciteing as refrigerator shopping to me.
Here is a old car and me "dressed up" in those days. I think ma wanted those cloths to last 5 or 10 years!

i was in the usafss in the 60's and stationed in england. meet my wife and got married. we got around the english countryside in a 1959 nsu prinz....36 hp with 2 cylinders.

My Dad had one of them and the Delaware Memorial bridge did the NSU in, just too much to climb with Dad and his rider.
I have seen bigger motors in Micro Midgets.
