I need a lesson in Scotch Brite Refinishing...

I aplogize in advance because I know this has been covered before, (I could not find a link to previous posts...) but:

I know that some forum members have had great success refinishing stainless revolvers with the different grades of Scotch brite brand scrubbing pads. I know that this takes plenty of time & patience but:

Any tips & secrets to the technique?

Hello!

I got out some fairly heavy scratches on my barrel with some light pressure stroking of the 3m pads. Starting with the green and moving to the grey.

Don't go too fast and stay with the 'grain', if you look there is a definite grain to stainless guns. Don't use much force either as the pads will make their own scratches if you do, just making it tougher/longer to finish.

I ended up using the grey pads for the finish by using as long and light of a stroke as I could until it all matched.

DO NOT USE STEEL WOOL, as the steel gets stuck in the micro grooves and can rust.

There are several ways to remove scratches or gouges in a stainless gun, 3m pads work pretty well because you can follow the contour of the gun in an area that you might have difficulty with using regular sand paper.

Regular sand paper offers better results as there is a wider variety of grits to use.

600-2000 grits usually do the trick and you can match your look by using the different grits. Because not all finishes are done the same way with the same grits.
