I need help find date of manufacture

4th edition only says 1946-1960. I am confident that somebody will come along soon with records on individual gun shipping dates to make a decent guesstimate from. S&W did NOT track manufacturing dates but did record shipping dates. They were sometimes close together, sometimes not, and they made no special effort to ship in serial number order. That can cause some interesting aberrations.

It is my understanding S&W did track manufacturing via foremen logs, but those records are long gone. Dr Roy Jinks managed to save the shipping records when he worked for the company.

I have a couple with VERY close s/n's and they letter as 1957 vintage.
