I have a brand new 500 magnum I pass it to my friend and he slams the cylinder shut like a cowboy immediately after handing it to him. My jaw drops and I take it from him and the cylinder is stuck shut, in fact I look closer and it looks like the cylinder is way too far to the right while being closed up like it went past the locking mechanism. The trigger won't budge neither will the hammer, I press the cylinder real hard it pops out and it closes up normal everything looks good. What happened? Should I be worried about shooting it for the first time? It seems fine now

It is fine now. Get a new shooting friend or explain proper gun etiquette and handling to him; he needs training!

I'm theorizing that slamming the cyl caused the locking pin at the rear end of the cyl to jump past the hole in the breechface instead of locking in. The cyl went too far to the right and was wedged crookedly in the frame cyl window. That's how cyl locking pins get bent.

The cyl is heavy especially with five rounds in it. It's not unlike slamming a car door; absolutely unnecessary and just creates extra wear!
