I need to vent

Seems like there might be ground for a law suit against the state for not following there own laws. Are the enough people to want to file a class action suit? I am not a lawyer nor do I pretend to know anything about it; I was just thinking with my fingers out loud.

(with my tongue firmly planted in my cheek . . . ) That sounds like a great idea ! I'll bet the ACLU will jump all over that in a heartbeat ! ;)

I sent in my check on Oct 9th, 2012.. Check was cashed on Oct 29th. I called after about 45 days from that point (mid-Dec) and was told my app was in background. After another month I called back again (Jan 23, 2013) and was advised it was still in background. They said they would have their supervisor manually push it through background and should have it within 30 days.
Well, here we are on Feb 1, 2013 and the card has finally arrived.

"CCW Cards? We don't need no stinking cards". (My apologies to Humphrey Bogart and Mel Brooks)

Several years ago a friend and I went decided to travel from our home state of Michigan to a gun show in the western burbs of Chicago.
We stopped a table with some interesting handguns and asked to look at one of them. You cannot believe or surprise when the seller asked to see our FOID. He said we can't touch any guns without this FOID.
We honestly thought he was messin' with us. Being outa stater's we'd never heard of such a damn thing. Sure was a depressing show.
I do feel sorry for you. Illinois sure is whacked out!

I would like to see a humongest lawsuit test case some day where a guy got bumped off because he wasnt carrying because his card didnt come back for many months and he gets shot on the street. It must have happened someplace by now.

The blue states are going to make it as unpleasant as they possibly can for legal gun owners (or anyone that doesn't align with their way of thinking). They want to wear you down until you either cave on your principles and submit to their agenda or leave the state. Either way that's a win-win in their minds.

It's the new norm, get used to it.

I wasn't aware of this FOID card when Jr. and I went to a gunshow in S. Illinois. We could look but not touch because of the card thing. Several of the vendors told us they were tire of Chicago running the rest of the state. Secede....no wait, we tried that.

Back when I was hitting gun shows a lot, I would often wind up in Illinois. Once I showed I was not an Illinois resident, I was allowed to fondle till I got tired.

And your wife can buy you a gun. Mine has bought many for me. They are just registered in her name. Their all in the same safe;)

At least they didn't send an officer over to pick up your guns for safe keeping until they decided it is safe for you to have them back. But don't hold your breath, they may try that someday soon.

When I got my FOID card renewed about 5 years ago, it took me 3 months to get it (thank goodness they are for 10 years now).

I think our state lives in a perpetual state of "behind" (especially when it comes to paying their bills...).

Illinoisans please answer me this. If you do a person to person FOID to FOID gun transfer aren't you legally obligated to wait 3 days (handgun) before you give the gun to the purchaser even though it's a private sale?

...First---If she purchases the 28 for you it is a straw purchase---you are not legal...

The last time I took firearms sales training, there was nothing wrong with buying a firearm for your spouse. Buying a firearm for someone you know to be unable to legally own one (other than your own son or daughter who isn't yet 18) or for someone who is not a member of your immediate family, is against the law.

There are a number of straw purchase scenarios, but your spouse buying you one is not one of them - unless you can't legally own one, yourself.

Just move a few miles north to WI, where gun rights are upheld.

I thought WI was pretty decent too .. then i moved here.
I assumed the 3 day wait was nationwide till my 1911 followed me home same day.
The different approach to the laws here are a little confusing at first but thereafter its a whole lot more convenient and sensible

As a former Illinoisan with family still behind state lines, I can tell you the answer is yes. Read more here: NRA-ILA | Illinois

FOID...unh?

Just did a Google search for the definition of "FOID" and "ISP"...that sux.

Illinois looks to have a gun control plan in place that the entire USA may suffer some future day not too far off. State Police enforced at that!
