I noticed there is a few dog lovers here

So Sorry for your loss of a dear friend and companion. It's never easy. I still get something in my eyes when I think about each that I have lost along the way. Darn allergies.

The Mrs and I have taken to providing transport for rescues. She monitors the FB and when there's a dog on death row that needs a freedom ride we jump in the suv and go get'em. We just started and we've picked up 4 so far. The first three all got adopted rather quickly. The fourth was just last week and should find a home soon.

There is a very good sense of feeling good when you see the joy in the dog's face when you take them out of the shelter and drive them to a foster home, knowing they are about to have a better life. It doesn't make the hurt of loss go away, but it sure helps put a smile back on my face.

That really is rough mate. I know how you feel and how difficult a choice it is to make. My father is currently in the same position with his Jack Russell but he still has to done what is necessary. They are true friends, I still miss the last dog I lost even though I've found another. Hang tough and keep your eyes peeled for a pup that needs you.

Tonight I sit in a puddle of tears.......
I had to have my boy Bub put down.

He was 12+ years old, and over the last year he had slowly went down hill to the point where getting up and walking was painful for him even though he tried not to show it.

He had lived a long good life but I could not sit and watch him suffer any more.

I know in time the pain I feel in my hart will fade. But today. I miss my best friend [/QUOTE

As true today as it ever was. Last year, after spending 5 days in a coma, my wife passed away. It broke my heart. Then 5 months later, I had to put Max down at 17. Then on Christmas day, I nearly lost my daughter, who is now on dialysis. It was the roughest year of my life.

I am sorry for your loss. I can understand how you feel, and how devastating that decision was to make. I was in the same situation when I had to put my first Lab, Holly, down. She had been at my side through two divorces, my becoming disabled, the death of both my parents, and raising two toddlers by myself, while disabled. It is hard to say goodbye to a damn good dog!

There will be a time when there will be a memorable reunion on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge!

Now is not the right time for me to get a new best friend.

Been where you are quite a few times. I figure it is better sometimes to take them out of suffering. I wish it was okay for people to do that but no we are expected to suffer.
I had a GS from a pup and I put him down at age of around 11. I use his name for many of my screen names. He was very special to me.

Don't know you personally, but I'm very sorry for your loss and I can certainly feel your pain.

I have been owned by dogs my entire life, and have said goodbye to far too many. They all took a piece of me with them. I am better for having known and loved them, and diminished for having lost them.

I have one now, an old girl who is now 17 years old, and her time is fast approaching. I know it's inevitable and not far off as her health isn't great anymore. When her bell tolls, and I'll know, I'll do what I have to do, what I've always done. I'll end her pain and begin mine. She'll take her last trip to the doctor, as she takes all her trips, in a laundry basket, her preferred method of travel. I have tears just thinking of that far too soon day.

Funny thing about her is she's a small dog (Jack Russell mix) and I wasn't supposed to love her (she belonged to my better half before we met), as I like big dogs. But she stole my heart and has since become "my dog". We have multiple dogs, a pack I guess, but the little one that I wasn't supposed to like has become mine.

When she goes, we'll grieve, the pack will grieve, we'll always remember her, but we'll eventually add to the pack again.

Dogs are truly mans best friend.

I remember reading something in the Bible that dogs do go to Heaven

Like many others on this forum, I have felt the sting of incredible loss when a beloved pet must cross the Rainbow Bridge. Some time ago, I found this drawing which expresses the event from a dog's point of view. It's very poignant.

My faithful friend Bucky passed way back in 2009 at the age of 11. I miss him still; his ashes rest on a shelf in our bedroom - I could not bear the thought of him not being near me.

This is his "formal portrait" not too long before he died. I think it expresses his quiet dignity - a dog who faced a lot of adversity healthwise, but bore his burden with pluck and indomitable good nature.

On this forum you will find many who have shared this experience. It's never easy, and we feel for you. Hope that someday you will meet again on the other side...

Everyone deals with loss of a pup [they're all pups to me..some just older than others] in different ways. We all shed alot of tears. I printed out about 200 pictures from digital sd cards and constructed a coffee table album with the pictures beginning with her first week in her new home all the way through her last month of life. We don't even have a coffee table, but we now have a beautiful album honoring Molly. Very few people in the pictures, mostly all of my wife with Molly. I also bought a 10" digital photo frame and we keep it running when the mood strikes. This is how I dealt with the loss of my forever best friend. Wishing you serenity and inward smiles when you think of your beloved.

We said goodbye to our beloved mutt Shovelhead in July of '04 and I still grieve for him.

We had to put our 12 year old female Akita to sleep in January. I had a good cry the day before bug knew deep down it was the right thing to do. She was the best dog we could ever ask for and we think of her every day.
