It was a total impulse buy. I saw it in a pawnshop, I liked it and I bought it. I know nothing about these M&P's. The bore and chambers are excellent, it locks up tight and has a very smooth action. There are some specks of rust on the backstrap and a couple more specks here and there. It's a fun little gun to shoot, what can you guys tell me about it? I paid $300 for it. I bought it to shoot, I figured I couldn't go wrong

Great buy! From the early 1950's. Looks to be in super condition. I have its twin, and love mine.

Go wrong? For $300? That is a beauty. Appears to be a M&P Pre Mod-10.
It was a work horse and kept S&Ws doors open. If this is your first purchase, I hope your luck holds out. Good hunting, Mike 2796

Thanks guys, I bought it with my 7 year old nephew in mind. He likes shooting and is getting pretty good with the .22's. I figure this will be the next step up when he's ready.

You did very well at $300! Personally, I would not have hesitated a nanosecond to give $450 for one that nice.
Congrats!
Stocks are correct for the period, btw, and in very nice condition.
Case colors on the hammer and trigger are also nice.

Your last comment " I figured I couldn't go wrong" is the most telling, you can't/couldn't go wrong unless your luck changes. Now go celebrate.

Yours likely shipped sometime in 1950. As previously noted, collectors would call it a "pre-Model 10" M&P, as the Model 10 nomenclature began in 1957.

$300 is a very good price for one in that condition. I'd say at least $400 would be a more typical price.

Congratulations on your pre model 10. I wish we had pawn shops like that!!
