I picked up my S&W Shield in 45acp.

A store local to me has Blazer brass 230gr .45 acp..................
$14.99 for 50 rounds :D
needless to say , I stocked up and may go back and grab some more.

Yes the 45acp is a little more, but if you watch where you buy your ammo it is not too bad ,last week@ Walmart I picked up box of 100 9mm for $24.64 and a box of 100 45acp for $37.97- so $13.33 more per 100 for range ammo.

I don’t think that I am going get to the range until next week, but someone asked about a comparison between my Glock 36 and the Shield 45, per their web page, the shield is .11 of an inch slimmer, .11 of an inch is a big deal for IWB carry.

and so it begins :)
I've been told ...one year out for Mass compliant.
So................I bought an XDM 3.8C .45 last weekend off of a local cop and I freaking love it, LNIB. My first .45, it's not much bigger than an M&PC in .40.
I can't wait to try one of these shields in .45
.45acp ain't cheap though, I may have to break down and learn how to do reloads.

Always found it odd that you have to wait so long to buy one that is made in your state. I live in CT. but work in Springfield ( 5 minutes from S&W). Some of the people I work with had to wait forever to get their Shield 9mms. Then again, You can buy AR 15s where they were banned for sale here since 2013, Colt & Stag Arms are here but we cannot buy their rifles.

They say that when people retire they try to better themselves. Who ever heard of anybody retiring to the north? They always retire to the south where we have a more gun friendly society. My carry permit is honored all over the southeast U.S. Just a little food for thought. I won't live in a state which won't allow me the right to defend myself.:)

Unfortunately many of those retirees are liberals and are converting red states to blue states. I left Florida to move to South Dakota because when it hits the fan, I don't want to wonder if my neighbor is going to be my enemy.

I would like to check one out but I'm afraid if I do I'll buy it, and that won't go over well

Cory

Amen! Me too, brother! Not so much that it won't go over well (at least I don't think so), but rather the inquisitive "why do you need another gun" look from my wife. And of course it would inevitably lead to the "which gun am I going to carry today" dilemma so many of us face every day.

I'm glad to see that Smith has finally brought this gun to the public. I'm sure they will sell them by the truckload.

I don't see one in my future. When I was in the market for a slim carry gun, I went with the XDS because I wanted no thumb safety. I've tried the Shield and it's an excellent weapon. In MY case, it offers nothing over my Springfield (even after Smith offered it sans safety). I've nearly given up trading away good, reliable guns to chase the ever-elusive "perfect" one. What I have works for me.

I look forward to hearing positive range reports and reviews!

what did you use for range ammo?

I picked up mine today, very impressed, it actually feels better than my 9mm being a little wider and the stippling type finish is great. Shooting it was very mild for a compact 45, I think I can actually shoot it as good or better than the 9mm. Ran 50 rounds through it without a hitch. I didn't take any pictures of the group's but it shoots tighter than I can. I'm going to try to put a couple more boxes through it in the next day or so & I'll get some dead target pictures to post. All in all very impressive, I think I'll keep it

Enjoy the snow!

No going out in the Gulf and catching Amberjack and Grouper or Speckled Trout or Redfish either. I'd way rather live in Florida than South Dakota. Then again that's why they make Dodge trucks too. They're for folks who don't know any better.

I got out to the range today, ran 200 white box (230 round nose) + 40 Golden sabers 185 g, with no malfunction. The trigger was a little better than my 9mm Shield. The recoil was mild with two hands, but with one I was getting a little muzzle flip (the target was the first 6 rounds, one handed). The accuracy was good for a break in period pistol, I was pulling to the left, I will need to shoot it more before I will know if it is me or the gun. - all-in-all I am a happy camper.

I then told him I had worked the trigger and asked him to dry fire it again. He dry fired it several times and then said it now had a better trigger than any striker fired pistol in his store. He said he was impressed with how good it felt. It now had almost no overtravel and had an even better break than before and seemed a little lighter than before.

Any pictures / videos of what you did to the trigger?

I'd like to smooth mine out a little, it feels a little gritty compared to my buddy's Shield 9 with Apex parts.

most of the grittiness comes from the contact of the TB/SB and striker block channel, I polished all the parts on my 45c and it is super smooth, will do it soon on my FS9 when installing NS.

polish the TB where it makes contact with SB and Sear. These pic were provided for Apex Tactical that's what they recommend also.

I spoke with Apex yesterday re: existing Shield DCAEK kits compatibility with the Shield 45. I was told they do not recommend it as they have not yet tested the parts in the new pistol themselves. They are in the process of moving and will address the new Shield shortly thereafter.

I'll be disassembling my Apex'd Shield 9 this weekend along with the 45 and measuring those parts I can while comparing the others.

I may just polish the 45 parts before re-assembly and call it good. I'm pleased with its trigger out of the box. I do prefer a flat face trigger though and I seem to have a hard time leaving my pistols alone for any extended period of time ;)

How is the takedown? Is it as difficult as the original? Many that try my Shield 9 can't lock the slide back although I am ised to it.

My Shield 9 is well broken in, the 45 still quite new. The 45 feels slightly easier to rack to a rear lock than the 9mm pistol. The difference is small but its there. It may also be due to the slightly larger slide being easier to hang on to.

Takedown is easy and simple...........lock the slide back, flip the lever, release the slide and it comes right off.
