I picked up my S&W Shield in 45acp.

.lock the slide back.

Thanks,

While the takedown is similar to other firearms is it easy to lock it back. I ask because out of dozens of firearms my wife and friends can't lock my Shield9 back. My wife can lock my Beretta 84F which is the worst offender that I own but finds my Shield impossible.

I made the mistake of saying she could have the Beretta 84F if she could lock it back. She secretly practiced until she could and I lost it to her:o

My Shield 9 is well broken in, the 45 still quite new. The 45 feels slightly easier to rack to a rear lock than the 9mm pistol. The difference is small but its there. It may also be due to the slightly larger slide being easier to hang on to.

Thanks
Do you think a tiny woman can lock it back. My wife can't lock my Shield 9 back.

I think you'd want to try one in person. I'm betting she can but make sure she's using a good technique when doing so.

A good scissor action of the arms and shoulders pushing the pistol frame and slide toward each other simultaneously is the key to success.

Holding the pistol frame stationary in one hand while trying to rack the slide alone with the other hand is the mistake many make as its the more natural and intuitive maneuver.

I spoke with Apex yesterday re: existing Shield DCAEK kits compatibility with the Shield 45. I was told they do not recommend it as they have not yet tested the parts in the new pistol themselves. They are in the process of moving and will address the new Shield shortly thereafter.

I'll be disassembling my Apex'd Shield 9 this weekend along with the 45 and measuring those parts I can while comparing the others.

I may just polish the 45 parts before re-assembly and call it good. I'm pleased with its trigger out of the box. I do prefer a flat face trigger though and I seem to have a hard time leaving my pistols alone for any extended period of time ;)

Holmes375,

what did your measurements indicate? What's the same and what's different?

I'm encouraged to read that someone shot some 200 gn. LSWC in his, and that's exactly what I hoped I could find somewhere on the net tonight!

When I shot a lot of matches my customized Colt Combat Elite loved the 200gn LSWC, even in my light-kicking powderpuff loads for practice. My little Kimber CDP Ultra wouldn't feed them though, of course, and 230 is the way to go for my Gen I version.

I'm thinking very seriously about adding the .45 version to my last pistol addition, the Shield 9, and hearing it fed the 200gn LSWC pushes me over into the buyer's market for SURE!

I love the grip profile too of my 9mm version, and this looks even a tad better! Thanks for the comments guys! When I can find one I'll get it, and promise to put up some targets, carefully shot, to demonstrate what kind of accuracy it has with a stock trigger.

All the best, Tom
