Stumbled on this Python locally and wanted a nice .357 for a while. Would have preferred blue but what the heck. Its a 6" stainless steel gun. Need to find some grips for it somewhere cheap, I know they cost a lot. Where is the best place to check the ser. no. to see when it was made? Hope this doesn't start me collecting Colts!! Larry

Probably isn't in here, you may have to call Colt to find the birth date.

Thanks for the list of ser no's. Mine is T 156XX and its not on the list. I checked proof house and I think the same list is there. Didn't see my ser no so I figured there was another list. A PM may turn up a set of grips for this gun, I hope. I love this forum!! Larry

Wait until you fire it the first time...that's when you'll REALLY be hooked! I love all my Smith revolvers...but there's nothing like a Python. :)

Thanks, its a 83-84 gun. Anyone else have one, like how they shoot? Larry

I have two Pythons, in 2-1/2" and 4" barrel lengths, both bought from Forum members over the years.

I've never fired the snubbie, but I shoot the 4" often. It's much more accurate than I am, and that buttery smooth action is the icing on the cake.

Please let us know how you like yours after you get the chance to wring it out... :)

Here's the grips that Whisper sent me and the little brother to the Python- a King Cobra. Thanks Whisper. The Cobra is in 4". Larry

That is funny! When I was twelve (late 80's)or so my dad had to sell his 6 inch stainless to make a house payment after a layoff. When I was older and wiser I realized what this meant. It was one of the few things that was all his that he sacrificed for his family. I thought it would be neat to replace it. I started looking around 2005. That was when I found out that they were out of production, highly desired, and freaking expensive. I pretty much gave up. I would look around occasionally, but I did not put to much effort into it. Then I joined my first forum last January (not even a gun forum). It was a knife forum. I saw a 4 inch blued Python (1978) that some one was getting rid of. I traded my balisong collection and a few hundred dollars and gave the Python to my father for his birthday. So moral of the story if you want a blue one I know a guy who would LOVE to trade. Just saying;)
