My dad has been sick and sliding away for the past couple of years.

My folks were married for 29 years, the divorced for 38 more.

On Tuesday I took mom for an eye doctor visit that was pre op for cataract surgery. The half hour visit lasted with me in the waiting room for 2 1/2 hours. I got her back home at about 3:45. shortly after I got her inside, my brother notified me that dad had died at about 3:15. I told mom. and she broke down sobbing. Then I told her that my wife and I had visited him the week before. At the end of that visit dad's wife told me that he had got Born Again last March. As I said this to mom, her eyes changed to the 17 year old bride she had been and the pure joy of knowing that she would get to see that 17 year old groom once again. I had seen pictures, but had never hoped to see that beautiful woman in this life!

So it is bitter sweet, I lost a dad but gained a brother.

Hallelujah!!! What a wonderful thing to know. I'm not sure my parents came to know Christ in that personal way, they were religious. I am a pastor and one of the most difficult tasks a pastor has is doing a funeral for someone they know has rejected Christ. I don't judge and leave that up to God, for only He knows the heart. But when I know for sure that the person accepted Jesus as his personal savior, what a easy sermon to officiate and preach the assurance of Christ to those in attendance. Praise God your father made that decision. Share this with everyone you encounter. Bless you.
