Last Sunday I saw this 1076 on armslist. I contacted the seller to tell him I was very interested, but was leaving for Denver early the next morning. I was prepared to drive and get it, but he agreed to hold on to it until I got back today. I didn’t even realize he had the box until I went to pick it up. It came with two mags, but no paperwork or tools, but it did have an extra stainless steel guide rod (doesn’t fit, and the seller thought it was a cleaning rod). Other than some cosmetic scuffing, it is in great shape and looks like it hasn’t been fired much at all. Anyhoo, I got the package for $1200.

When I got home, I pulled out SCSW4 and started researching it. The product code 105901 is an FBI ordered pistol according to SCSW4. It has the palm swell grips, night sights, checkering on the front strap and trigger guard, and no magazine disconnect safety, and no “capable of firing with magazine removed” warning on the slide. It has “Special” listed under features. On the dust cover, it has “A.H.P.D 26” engraved. Perhaps an FBI gun that was sold to a PD?

I know I’ll have to letter it for definitive FBI provenance, but what’s the consensus of the forum?

Oh, and does anyone know what town A.H. may be? The three I came up with are: 1. Arlington Heights, IL (Chicago suburb) 2. Alamo Heights, TX (San Antonio suburb) and 3. Airway Heights, WA (Spokane suburb).

If it has a PD marking I would suspect it was ordered from the government purchase bid list where local and state government can purchase at bid prices. The same way they buy cars, ammo and anything else the government has already bid out. It could also be a factory return that was resold to a small department. Highly unlikely that any agency would purchase a used gun.

Nice pistol. I have a 105901 special order that will fire with mag out and it is not marked on the right side but it does not have the cross hatch on the grip on the frame like your pistol has.
I do have a question about adding the SWCA badge to profile if anyone can help that would be great.

I doubt it would have been Scareway Heights, as they are a pretty small department. Unless they bought them because SCSO had them, I'd be surprised if they had any, and 26 would be a really high number for such a small agency.

The pistol has a curved grip, not the palm-swell grip. Trijicon can probably re-lamp the night sights.

I believe the boxes of all the FBI guns are plainly marked "F.B.I." on an added sticker at the top of the regular sticker. If your gun serial and the box serial are the same that sticker is not there. My guess it is not an FBI gun. However in today's market you probably didn't over pay. If it turns out to letter as an FBI gun it would sell quickly for $2000.

I would suspect the pistol was ordered by a police department piggybacking on the FBI contract (not uncommon) or was part of a contract overrun where S&W sold them to a police department…also not uncommon.

As others have stated, likely not FBI issued but still a really sweet PD marked 1076. I quite enjoy odd ball/LE 10xx pistols and haven't seen this marking before, for what that's worth, and I own a few.
