I will never tell another officer I'm carrying again.

...It didn't bother me so much that he took my gun. It's him leaving it in the rain and his attitude at the beginning. But at least he did apologize. So I'll leave it at that.

This comment is from the OP. Maybe this post should end now. Before it's the civilian gun owners vs. the cops on this forum. **** happens! Chalk it up to the end of a crappy 2011. Begin 2012 as a happy, safe new year. :)

Do not notify in states where you are not required to notify.

How hard is that to understand?

My position is and always has been, stick to the letter of the law. Anybody who doesn't like that has contempt for the law and probably an unhealthy love of whatever power he's been [temporarily] granted.

cmort666,

You seem to have a chip on your shoulder concerning situations, have you had a bad LEO experience or what?
If you consider believing that you cannot enforce the law without yourself obeying it, having a "chip" on my shoulder, feel free to do so. I'll proudly own that.

If you think the police don't need to know or obey the law, I invite your attention to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, or Chicago for the last 100 years or so.

In the few times that I have been pulled over, I have always immediately informed the officer that I was carrying a concealed firearm. In every instance, even those few were I was guilty of a minor traffic infraction, the officer did not write me up...always thanking me for letting them know that I was armed.
The way to avoid traffic citations is to obey the traffic laws, NOT to render extra-legal "courtesies" which will inevitably be interpreted as legal DUTIES.

I don't get speeding tickets. What's my secret? I don't speed. Give it a try. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
