I have been on a roll here recently, acquiring several older sidearms.

It got me to thinking (I know, danger danger) how long it had been since I purchased a brand new sidearm.

The last brand spanking new sidearm was in 2009, my S&W 1911. The one before that was in 2006, my FN 40 S&W High Power.

All the rest of my purchases have been used sidearms.

I was wondering how my activity is compared to others.

What say you?

Bought a new Kimber,a pair of S&Ws and a ruger around '05-'06,started hanging around here, the Smiths and Kimber went away and it's been nuthin but crummy old guns since [emoji3]

I haven't purchased a new S&W since the early '80's or late 70's.

The more recent production items don't interest me.

The noticeable drop in quality (at least noticeable to me) is off putting.

I still buy S&W - but only used examples from before 1980.

The last new gun that I bought was a 2 1/2 inch model 66 back in 1985.

Only recently got back into shooting for recreation so I have picked up a couple used ones. Can't say anything in the new S&W line screams to me that I must have like some older ones. I don't collect though. I only buy handguns to shoot and enjoy.

Probably about 2008 or 09. Everything else I own is used. In fact most are police used.
G19
S&W 4566
S&W 4586
HK USP 9
HK USP 40
S&W 13

All police guns. My daily carry is the G19 from some Florida PD

The last 2 new guns I bought were S&W M&P 9 and 357sig and both I later sold

I've been buying a whole lot lately. I've been busy in retirement adopting all kinds of wayward S&W's. I told my FFL dealer that I've got to quit. Then I emailed him yesterday that I've got a S&W 64-1 coming in on Saturday. It's a good thing we're building a "safe room" inside the new house.

My last four acquisitions have been brand new, but I also traded for a very lightly used handgun. Lately, the new stuff has held more attraction, but it's because I'm looking for specific items, and I'd rather have them new.

To the best of my recollection I've only actually purchased 6 NIB firearms in the last 60 years. 5 S&W's and a .22 rifle.

The Smith's were a M547, M610, M16-4, M380 BG & M642-1 (no IL) (I still have the last two.) The rifle was a Walther G22. (Long gone.)

My first two CZs were used. I bought a used FEG from a pawn shop a few years ago. My other purchases, not too many really, have been new.

I'd rather buy used, but the opportunities don't come up all that often. "Opportunity" means the gun is available, and I have the money.

I bought at an online estate auction a CZ SP-01 in 2010 (?) that was listed as used but arrived with the mags still factory wrapped.:confused::confused: Guess I'd call that one new.

As for rifles, I bought a new FN FS2000 (Combat Tuna) in 2011.

The last new handgun I bought was in 2010 or 11. It was a LCP and in 08 and 10 I bought new Savage rifles. I have bought and sold several used guns, but I prefer to let someone else buy the latest fad and let the bugs get worked out. I still haven't decided if alloy guns are going to have a long user life (I have a few-maybe 10) but the polymer guns need to prove themselves for 50 to 60 years first. Ivan

ETA: I currently own 11 S&W revolvers and have owned about 35 over the years. I never bought one new! Like I said I prefer the savings. ITB
