You have a S&W Second Model Single Shot, which was made between 1905-1909. The First Model Single Shots, made from 1893-1905 were actually called the Model of '91, although the Model of '91 stamped barrels were used up on the early Second Models, . The difference between the First and Second Model is that the First Models have cylinder recoil shields, because the frame used was the same frame as the .38 Third Model Single Action,(Made from 1891-1911) and the cylinder and barrel on these could be removed and replaced with the single shot barrel. The .38 Single Action and the .22 First Model shared the same serial number range. In my opinion, the value on yours is probably around $400-$500 due to the wear on the finish, although it's hard to give a value based on your pictures. I paid $625 for a real nice, numbers matching 2nd Model with wood grips and 8" barrel late last summer and think I got a pretty fair deal. Hope you find this info useful, and enjoy the old Single Shot.

Edited: I checked my records when I got home last night, and I paid $625 for the Second Model, not $800 like earlier stated, so I guess I got a better deal than I thought!!!
