Welcome! A .38 Military & Police hand ejector from 1947-48. This model was introduced in 1899 and is made today as the Model 10.

Thank you, Sir, that was quick! You may have noticed, the cylinder release pad is missing. Any thoughts on where I might find a replacement, or a parts diagram?

Welcome to the S&W Forum, njdarrow

You have a postwar .38 Military & Police model that probably shipped from the factory in December 1946.

It has been refinished, and the stocks are not original.

I would check Numrich on line for the thumbpiece. Most likely yours would be the older prewar style with the flared edges, but for functional purposes on that non-original unit, it isn't going to matter. The flat-edged type that began phasing into use in about November 1946 will work just fine.

Welcome. You have what looks like a parkerized type finish, so a bright polished blue thumbpiece will not look good on that revolver. Numrich (gunpartscorp.com) is a very unfriendly site to find what you want unless you have spent a good deal of time on the site. You need both a thumbpiece and a nut. Numrich has a thumbpiece stock that looks like a WWII issue piece - matte finish. To help you out, both links are below.
