Identify this S&W

The genius who did that "work" obviously didn't know how to remove the slide stop and I'll bet he didn't know how to remove the stocks, either. I was cleaning weapons today and noticed that my 6906 and 908 also had the SN under the stock on the left side of the frame as well as above the trigger area. Strangely, my 457 only has the SN above the trigger.

It would be interesting to know if there is still a SN under the stocks on the OP's gun.

Anyone know what periods of time S&W also marked the SN under the grips?
