If A Man Can Dream It....An RM Story

I guess I don't know what a barbque gun is. I have the idea one is gaudy and over the top looking for attention. This is not it. A collection of ideas, steel, wood and talent into a practical, functional and awesome package. I hope to see a picture someday with it laying on a wiley Wapiti!

To my way of thinking, a Bar-B-Que gun is one that the owner carries on special occasions to demonstrate his idea of the image he wants to portray. For some of us it may be bold and brash, for others more quiet and understated. Elegant or just overdone, we still project somewhat by the things we are proud of. I'd sure be proud to carry that one... I probably wouldn't ever want to devote the effort and resources needed to do so, but I can sure respect the guy who did!

I love this gun. I have an old Model 27-2 3 1/2" that I have been trying to figure out what to do with. It has a lot of holster wear. I am a .38/.357 guy, but like the looks. Who did the grips and hard chrome?

Great gun, great music link! Do they record?

Yes, I do believe so.......Miss Imelda May, hails from Ireland.

Wanda Jackson was bestowed the title of the 'Queen of Rockabilly'....
Imelda May is the Princess of same.

Keith Brown made the stocks.

I don't know if my nickle guy wants any publicity....

I guess, I'd better ask him if he wants his identity revealed, before I out him here. ;)

I'd like to Thank everyone for y'all's interest in my lit'l project here.

keith44spl, I like your .44 S&W Special.....backup... pic. I agree.

Heck, you converted a .357 into a .44 Special?
I approve, wholeheartedly. Has there ever been a more perfect handgun round than a .44 Special?
Good stopping power.
Great accuracy.
Easy to shoot well.
Lots of loading possibilities.
And, it DOESN'T chamber in any Tupperware bottom feeders. (The most important)

.44 Spl was the second handgun I ever bought. The first was .38 Spl.
I haven't been without a .44 Spl and a .38 Spl for MANY years.
They're just so versatile.

Where'd ya get those gorgeous stocks? Or did someone already ask that, and I missed it?

So, are badge bunnies the same as cop groupies?

Dave:

I love that you share your projects with the rest of us.:)

Although there is now one less pre-war 357 in the world today,

Thanks again for sharing,

As I shared with Richard the back story on this lit'l deal....

I'll now share with the rest of you.

I'm not the un-repentant sinner that it would appear on the get go here 'bouts.

In addition to fitting a slave .44 Spl barrel and cylinder to this RM frame,

I retained the numbered barrel and cylinder in .357 Magnum

This is what she looks like with the .357 get-up

But, those of you that know me and my affection/affliction toward the .44 Special,
Will understand this'n ;)

The stocks are the mastery of Keith Brown........

And....I guess, badge bunnies are groupies of sorts...Just of the female persuasion ;):D

Dave,

I love it when a plan comes together....................

What an Excellent Job and it's a .44 Special, my favorite caliber also. As has been said this is the revolver that S & W should have made.... Well planned and well played, Sir!!! Enjoy the heck out of it!

Dave,

Now that this thread has been reopened, I went back and reread the whole thing as well as the original from April. (See my PM from earlier today.) Anyway, something that hadn't occurred to me before has struggled to the surface of my swampy frog brain... what about the top rib of the barrel? Is is checkered like the 357 frame (I assume it must be) and how did that happen? Did you checker it, did S&W ever make a 44 barrel with a checkered rib? Que pasa? After looking at all the pictures yet another time, I am more impressed than ever with what a magnificent finished product you have there. Que maravilloso!

As I am not a purist or much of a collector...I am a user of such equipment.
And enjoy my lit'l past time as much as any man.

While casting about for the perfect specimen for this project...I realized, it was right before me.

I had pick this revolver up a year or two before and there it was....
Having been back to the factory for a so-so re-blue and a nose job, made it jest right for this lit'l deal.

Found an new-old stock 4" 44 Special barrel & a proper cylinder for re-chambering (all this to preserve the original barrel and cylinder)

While I was at it, I snip'd the original barrel back to 4" and had it all bright nickeled.

this revolver was not meant to be a 'safe queen' or anything else, other that a handy sidearm.

I got her holstered up and sportin it as I type this...Fixin to crank the pickup and cruise the back 40.

In closing, all sentiment's toward the fact that I chose this particular platform for this custom build,
cause I liked er purty good my own self. ;):D

Thank you Charlie for all your kind words of encouragement.

All My Best,
Dave

To: keith44spl. This is a very nicely planned and executed project! The one question I did not see answered in this thread and the earlier one is about the .44 special cylinder you used.

I am wondering if you addressed the problem of a nonmatching cylinder number if it was present. The collector part of me would hope to find an unnumbered cylinder (if it would exist) for a project like this.

I used a non-numbered 27 cylinder that was laying around the shop, it had been re-chambered earlier to 44 Spl. some time in the past...

Fitted it up and shot it a bit on paper, before dis-assembly and the nickle plating.

Also, relieved the shroud opening to accommodate the added larger (period correct) ejector rod knob.

That is very nice! (so's the girl).
Can't wait to see the leather.

.

Dave, that looks great. I saw where you said you cut the barrel back so it would fit your carry holsters but I think that one deserves something special wrapped around it.
Be sure to include pictures if you decide to cobble one up.

Boys,

Nothing special, jest a fit & try practice holster...Oak leaves and acorns on Basket Weave.

And it fit purty good.

Nicely done! Austin sans garter. I assume the belt loop hole in the back. Is the belt slot held down with stitching, or Chicago screws, or something else. Nice shuck, I'll bet Col. Askins would have liked that. Mark
