If I could do it all over again...

I'm a new gun owner and I have the bug bad. I've spent about $350 or more on a few items that I will not use because they are not what I'm looking for. That $ could have gone to a magnifier for my eotech. I wish I could go back in time and spend my money more wisely.

My question is, "if you could start from scratch, what would you do differently? "

I would start ammo hording earlier, pass on the cx4 .45 purchase (ridiculous low round count, limited after market) and save myself from a growing box of random gun this and that's.

Between the MP15's and 5k rounds of trap each year, it adds up quickly, but sure is fun

Every perceived "mistake" equates to the cost of first hand experience. Without an experience based frame of reference, I would not know what my preferences are.

I now know what works for me. It's made me more selective, and will save me $$$ in the long run.

I am right there in with JaPes...Had I not bought the holo sight I wouldnt know that It doesnt fit my shooting style and I would still be looking at them trying to figure out which one I wanted.

MP5s were $850.
M16s were $750.

I would have never ordered a Sport from a shady local gun shop that took my money, told me a 3-4 week wait, and would not refund my money before 30 days. Later found out that "3-4 week wait" would actually be 3-4 months. Should have gone right to the more reputable internet gun stores to see what was available when.

That is eventually what I did, but I lost a month's time with my money tied up for 30 days.

If I could start from scratch, I wouldn't have bought a cheap Mako 5x magnifier. I should have just bought the EOTech magnifier with flip to side mount and been done with it. In the case of a magnifier you really do get what you pay for.

Yup. I got a 3x sightmark that doesn't line with the dot so it throws a big blur to the left of the dot. Should have dug deeper.

I don't think i would change anything. maybe. I bought a sport. Picked up a used but like new rra mid-lenght freefloat tube and gas block. Installed those. Ordered a RRA scope base for 50 bucks. and put on a old scope i had. Works for coyote hunting and plinking with my girls and grand kid. Maybe if night hunting becomes legal here for coyotes then some thing with an IR acceptable optics would be fine.

I would have saved every single reloadable piece of brass I ever saw.

I would have bought powder and primers when they were still a fraction of what they cost now.

I would have started reloading the day I bought my first gun.

I would have been hording all the wheel weight I could if I ever thought they would one day be labeled a hazardous controlled item.

I would have stared casting the same day I wish I started reloading.

On that note I'd take a trip back and pick up alot of C/R vintage military stuff. I remember looking in Woolworths with my Dad at garands for $300 and m1 carbines for $200........
