Well, to each his own, and all that. I was always lukewarm on S&W automatics when I was a younger fellow because I have never shot them well, but from a design standpoint, I always thought the 5903/4/6 led the pack in the big-magazine 9mm pistol category. Just take a look at the size compared to a Beretta 92F or a P226. Both of those are great pistols, but just why a 9mm needs to be so big is beyond me - especially the Beretta! :rolleyes:

When S&W started producing the 3913 they got my attention, and they kept it with the 4040PD. When a few years later they got in the 1911 business there was more reason to take note of their automatics. I have a Commander-size 1911PD that is a very nice gun straight out of the box. My latest S&W auto, the PC1911, has just been excellent. I was leery to buy it because I dislike firing pin safeties in 1911s intended mostly for target shooting but this gun shoots very well and its trigger doesn't suffer a bit. I expect it to get a little better with some use.

Even though I would prefer the same guns without the firing pin safeties, I would put the PC1911 against any Colt product made, and ditto the 1911PD against any Colt Commander ever made. I think they would do very well. Can't speak to how either would fare against SIGs as I do not own a SIG 1911.
 
Back in May, I picked up a Governor. When I first saw the Judge / Governor, I thought that it might just be something totally gimmicky, and that I wouldn't want something like that.

But, the more I saw them, the more I researched and the more I read, I started thinking that it would be something "fun" to have. I joked about it with my wife, and she just rolled her eyes.

So, in May, we're at a local show looking to pick up a pistol for her. She spent most of the afternoon handling various 9 mm's from different manufacturers. During our escapade that afternoon, we came across a vendor with both the Judge and Governor. Knowing what I had read and seen for myself, there was no way I was going with the Judge.

Interestingly, my wife looked at it, picked it up, and liked it! No, we didn't get it for her, but she loves shooting the darned thing!

It has actually become more than a fun gun for us - it sits in a small quick-release safe in the nightstand, as our HD gun.
 
I have the Performance Center Snubbie stainless and the Night Guard both in 44 magnum. Perfect function and have run a good bit of ammo through them as I rely on them for casual outdoor Alaska use. Both are really in their prime with Buffalo Bore 255 grain Hard cast for outdoor. Accurate, controllable and enjoyable. Proper stance, grip and stocks (Crimson Trace on the PC and the wood grip from the PC on the NG) help them fill their niche roles perfectly. I also own a pin Model 19 snubbie and think the PC is just as nice. Really like the ball detent forward latch on the PC. The NG needs a trigger job from the Performance center and may go in for it this winter if I can part with it while in northern Alaska.
 
Purchased on line within the last several years a 27-2 @ 8 3/8", 66-4 at 2.5: , 19-3 @ 2.5", and a 17-4 @ 8 3/8". Some are for us, while others are for safe keeping. .
 
Bought a 40 cal. M&P Shield a couple of days ago and took it to the range today. It was accurate for a small auto and handled the 40 S&W ammo very comfortably. I got 2" to 3" groups at 10 yards off hand, sights are very visible. It seems to be a good compromise between small (thin) and concealable, and the ability to shoot a heavier bullet, without objectionable recoil. I expected to be disappointed after shooting a Glock 23 for many years, but wasn't. No issues with the gun. I like it.
 
I picked up my first model 59 today. Brought it home and gave it a good cleaning. It is a '72, '73 model year and has been fired very little. It has almost no visible wear, a couple light spots of rust. I've wanted one of these since about 1984, when I was about 22 years old. I've been picking up, holding, working all parts of my "new" gun since I finished cleaning "her". I can hardly wait for tomorrow to shoot some targets!
 
New guns...let's see...I buy mostly older stuff but for new Smiths I have bought:

Full size 1911. Perfect out of the box...love it.
1911Sc 4.25" bobtail. Perfect out of the box...love it.
Talo 22A Perfect out of the box...love it.
PPK/S .380 What can I say...James Bond...love it.
M&P 40c It's plastic...love it anyway.
M&P 357c Love it a bit more than the 40c.

Both of the M&P's had the same minor slide lock issue but Smith turned them around in short order all taken care of and they run great. Outside of that all of my "new" guns have been wonderful...almost as wonderful as all the "used" Smiths I own! I don't have time to complain...too busy loading and shooting!:D

edit: I know this is a revolver section but the question was new Smiths...not new Smith revolvers...log your complaints at the front desk.

The M22 had some minor cosmetic issues that S&W went above and beyond for. It's a 2009 production that I purchased new late last year. That story is here:

The trigger is excellent and the lockup is completely solid.

The 442 was purchased early this year and has been flawless in all respects. It gets fired more often than any other firearm I own.
 
I got a 642 a month or so ago. Love it. It's my EDC and in my pocket right now. There were a couple minor issues, one my fault and one theirs, but they're taken care of and I'm happy. As usual, it is more accurate than I am but I'm working on that.
 
Pretty Happy

Pretty happy with my 629 Classic and 329PD. Both are far more accurate than I am. Triggers were both good and made better with Wilson spring kits (14 lb return, and mainspring). My only gripes are with customer service (as seems to be the case these days). My grip on the 629 had a hairline crack and after 4 or 5 calls I just fixed it myself. I tried to get a 500 grip for the 329PD and I was told 4-6 weeks for the "in stock" grip?? Can't figure that one out. Anyway they both shoot fine from a bench rest, now just got to practice, practice, practice...

After being revolver-less for a number of years Finally found a 686 for a great price although not new its the one I was looking for. I sold a 19 nickel back in 1979 sure miss that one. My new to me 686

I bought an M&P 40 about a year and a half ago and absolutely love it. it has not had one single issue in over 800 rounds fired of all types of ammunition. I also bought an M&P 15 about a year ago and love it as well. I have put close to 1,000 rounds through it and again, not one single issue. They seem to get better and better the more I shoot them. My next S&W will be an older revolver though...still trying to find the right one at the right price.
 
Never was a wheel gun fan. Got talked into buying an S&W 460 XVR a few months ago. Bought me a Governor and a TRR8 since. The S&W has rekindled a flame and pure enjoyment for wheel guns! They all preform flawlessly and have introduced me to a whole new genre of calibers a plain ole fun! Love that .357 man!!!!
