If you bought a new S&W recently and love it... tell us!

A litttle over a month ago, I bought a 30 year old Model 65-3 revolver from my sister-in-law. The gun was originally owned by my father-in-law and then passed to my brother-in-law when my father-in-law died. My brother-in-law passed away almost 2 years ago and the .357 was more gun than my sister-in-law was comfortable using.

As you can imagine, I have a strong sentimental attachment to the gun. But, beyond that, I've found the 65-3 3-inch to be an outstanding handgun and have begun carrying it as my "winter" EDC. I am amazed how easily the k-frame revolver can be concealed OWB. (Ok, I admit to being a semi-auto guy who never tried to concealed carry a revolver.) Anyway, I'm thrilled to have the revolver and will pass it to my sons when the time comes that I can no longer use it...(Hopefully a long time from now!)

I think some people are missing the point of this thread.

Unless I am seriously mistaken this thread is supposed to be about NEW S&W products - not about your latest purchase of a used gun.

There are 2 or 3 other threads about "your latest purchase" - for guns that are new to YOU.

Just sayin'...

I'm glad you started this thread. I got my first S&W revolver in 1981, a beloved 6" nickle Model 57. It was stolen when I moved to "the big city" from the farm to go to college, and having lived in the same city until recently, I'd been out of guns since then.

I'm now back at the farm a lot, having moved closer to the farmstead finally, and recently acquired a 1978 nickle 8 3/8" Model 57 and a 1982 nickle 6" Model 29.

I have always been a devoted large-caliber S&W revolver guy, but having read all the issues with the newer models continually it seemed, having a disdain for the IL and the cut-down cylinder release, and liking the older royal-blue bluing (even though I am a nickle or stainless guy) rather than the newer blacker-finish, I had written off the newer pieces except for the 460 and 500.

However, this thread has opened my eyes. I am glad to hear there are some good things still coming out of the factory, and you guys are pleased with the newer models as well!

I have to admit I hate the finish on the grips of the new "Classic" models - they look like fake wood to me - but that could be easily remedied and it sounds like there is no reason to disdain the newer pieces for me any longer.

In fact, I like the way some of the new pieces look, and with a Hogue Extended Release on them...they look quite trick!

I can see a 460VR with one of those added in my future. I'm sure the compensator and shroud are not falling off as many of them as I seem to have read about.

Once again, no one likes to write about the plane that flies - only the plane that crashes.

So thank you for opening my eyes, but damn you, too - you probably just cost me $1800! :)

My last two S&W purchases were both 629's. Picked them up about a year ago.

629 Classic 5"
629 PC Stealth Hunter

Very happy with both of them.

I just picked up a brand new 637-2...

It is perfect in every which way! So perfect, I almost don't want to shoot it!

Great timing, perfect lock up, straight barrel. Fit and finish, flawless!

Last year I bought two Smiths at the same time off GB. A 686 plus and a 629. 686 was outstanding right out of the box. Perfect in all respects. Now, the 629 had lots of issues. Canted barrel and one of the worst triggers I have felt in a Smith. Off to the mother ship and repairs were completed. 4 to 5 week round trip. 629 is now perfect.

I recently purchased a S&W MP9 Pro with 5 inch barrel and absolutely love it. I'm not certain why however I shoot it better than my Glock 17 and 26, Dan Wesson Valor 45 and Les Baer Thunder Ranch Special. It just feels so comfortable in the hand and the front green FO sight is so easy for my 69 year old eyes to pick up.

My new 327 PC snubbie has really grabbed my fancy. Picked it up last week and finally got to the range and put some .38 Sp. and .357 through her. Just a really nice package, very smooth trigger right out of the box. And did I mention how light the gun is? Will probably become my cooler weather EDC once I decide on a holster and put a few more rounds through her.

I found a Model 69 4.25 inch in a gun store I frequent about three weeks ago. Since acquiring it, I've replaced the internal lock, added Altamont grips, and shot a little over 200 rounds through it. I also picked up a Galco Combat Master holster as well as a couple of HKS speed loaders (the ones for the Charter Arms Bulldog .44 work great). While it might not be the most concealable gun for daily wear, it is very versatile for around the ranch, especially when loaded with shot rounds for the vermin emerging with the warmer weather.

A 686+ 3" and a BG38 last month. The 686+ shoots better than the 686+4" I traded in. The BG38's grip is too small (Hogue on order) and the batteries were dead. Other than that it seems lake a great little gun.

Bought a TRR8 last week (hard to find in Switzerland), love it.

Just purchased a new M640-3. I knew the minute I picked it up it felt like a natural extension of my hand. I like the feel of a solid steel gun and don't mind the weight. Shoots like a dream and will definitely go in my edc rotation. Stock grips are fine by me but I am looking to replace the front sight. Either with XS big dot or truglo tfx pro. I'm thinking the latter cause it has fiber optic for daytime and tritium for night combined. This little gem is definitely a keeper.

The last S&W that I Bought was this M69 Snubbie. My only regret is that they didn't come out with it 20yrs ago, so that I could have enjoyed it longer.

Bought a 638 last December and a couple weeks ago I brought home a 19-9. Both are excellent. The 19 especially.
I think of it as a M-19 Mod 2.

Like others a Model 69, 4" model.

Fits my grip so well. Kicks, yeah, but it's nice to have a smaller package .44. I love the two tone look also. Thanks to SportsmanSupply on Gun Broker, who sell about 1 a day, No Reserve, $0.01 starting bid, I walked away with one for $605, out the door from my local FFL.

LOVE IT. Yes it kicks a lot with full bore hunting loads, but I'll use it mainly with lighter loads. Something more than .44spl. It fits my hand will. Was able to keep 5 shot, SA, @ 25yds in the 8in circle.

Two in the last 3 weeks. New from factory. the model 66-8 and the model 69, both 2.75". About 100 rounds through both and I am very happy!

Last September I started a search for a nice pre lock K Frame that wouldn't blow the budget (crazy concept, I know). That searched proved harder than I thought.

I thought I'd have to "settle" for a L Frame and I grabbed a 686-3 6" on new years eve, but I kept looking.

Of course, what happens when you look? You find something, but still, not a K Frame. A really nice 649-3 popped up at a price I couldn't pass up, so, it came home with me.

With a L and another J in the safe, I became determined to find the elusive K. Then it happened. A 64-3 stepped out of the woods and I nabbed it.

Now my thirst is temporarily satisfied and my stable suddenly has new family of -3s.

I haven't fed her yet, but she seems tight as a drum and damn she's pretty. S&W model 15-3 Combat Masterpiece. I've been cultivating a nice collection of nickel plated wheel guns and someone suggested this model would fit really nicely.

Edit - not a new gun, just new to me. I just realized this thread was intended for new models. My bad.

Picked up a 340 M&P awhile back that's been good for the 300rds I've put through it. (my hands prefer the 640 or 49 though :D ) And it doesn't have the infernal lock!

I've been thinking about adding a handgun I could hunt with for a while now. After some research I decided I wanted a 44 magnum. After that was decided I fell in love with this beauty!
She has an unbelievably smooth action, a ferocious bark and a bite like a T-rex and she looks good doing it!
I am obviously pleased! [emoji4]
