If you could only have 1 J frame, what would it be?

Of the ones I have currently I would have to pick my 360j. That said my next purchase is most likely going to be a 442pro which I believe is cut for moon clips. A very nice addition for ejecting spent cases.

A 638, although I let someone talk me out of my last one. A 642 will have to do till I come across another 638.

The 640 no dash I have in my pocket right now.

I own three of them and the Mrs. has two.

I'm lucky to have six J frames (and one .32 I frame that belonged to the Doctor who delivered me). A flat latch 36, 38, 442, 638, 60-15 Pro Series and a 640-1 Pro Series.

Of all of them, the 640 is the most accurate and smoothest action after clean up. It would be my pick followed closely by the 638.

Tough choice between the Model 36, Model 60 and 640pro. Would probably grab the 36 since I seem to shoot it better than the latter pistols

Sadly I have just one j my dad's 36 which was his edc. I do not carry it as often as some other pocket guns but plan to change that. affordable j's seem scarce where I live now ( Arizona) but ironically were plentiful when I lived in communist New York. I would like to have a 34, 38 or 42 when I can find an affordable one. I do not care for stainless at all, so I look to the old school blued guns ( though a good deal on a nickel one would be fine too.)

It would be a tuff choice but, if I could only have one it would be one of my 442s.

I am curious to see which j frame you guys would pick to be your best carry/personal protection/range J frame if you could only have 1. It could be from any era up to the present.

First, you're evil. ;)

Second, that is a tough choice.

Right now I only have one gun, a 642-1. I'm inclined to go with it because it's currently produced, thus it can be replaced, if necessary, fairly easily without too much cost. For me it strikes a decent balance between weight and controllability, especially with Spegel boot grips.

However, I would probably have to go with a DAO 649 in .38 Special if I were going to be limited to 1 J-frame. I hardly ever carry in the pocket and I've never ankle carried a gun, so the weight probably isn't going to be much of an issue in an IWB holster, but that extra weight can help with shootability. I prefer DAO guns for self defense, and I really like the Centennials, but having the hammer "button" available lets me 1) check for high primers easily, and 2) keep my thumb on the hammer for a little extra safety margin when holstering.

thanks for all of the replies, it is interesting to see what you guys really take to heart when it comes to having 1 J... Some want newer models and some want the older guns.. I would opt for one of these since I have 2 of them now as of today..
Neat, neat guns for the money...
