If you could only have one revolver in .357, what model would it be?

It would be the most expensive one I could get my hands on so that I could sell it for top dollar. Then I'd buy a real big bore and have money left over for ammo.

Sorry, but you had to ask...

4" model 19. It simply doesn't get any better than that, for me. Regards 18DAI.

Some nice Smiths pictured and mentioned here. I agree with the posts saying any S&W would be a good choice, depending on what you want to do with it.

I really like the 3 1/2" or 4" N frame eight shooters, but don't want to be without a J frame either. And the 2 1/2" to 4" K, L, or N frames are all sweet (as long as they have a good trigger & grips).

For longer shots, a scoped 8"er can be useful.

Call me a heretic. My 3in SP101 stainless.

I gotta agree the sp101 3" is a very nice gun. Love mine.

Also have a 6" model 28 and a 6" 586, both would be hard to let go if I could only have one.

Ahh, so there IS a 520 in San Antonio to go with the 520 box I picked up some time ago at Nagel's. But I'll wager you already have a box to go with that beauty.

My vote goes for any 586/686/L frame. Even though I only own K's and N's, there is something about the balance of the L frame that appeals to me.

My vote: 627 PC V8 4" if I'm serious about SHOOTING it a lot....and if I don't have to CCW it in my thong....

Not an easy choice for me as I have the following S&W 357 revolvers:

Model 19-7 6-inch
Model 60-9 Chief’s Special 2-inch
Model 586 PC L-Comp 3-inch
Model 686-4 4-inch
Model 686-6 8-3/8 inch

And the following non-S&W revolvers:

Colt King Cobra 8-inch
Ruger Security Six blue 357 Mag 6-inch
Ruger Service Six stainless 357 Mag 4-inch
Ruger Speed Six stainless 357 Mag 4-inch
Ruger Bisley stainless 357 Mag 5½-inch
Ruger GP100 6-inch

As far as S&W revolvers go, I would take my 586 L-Comp and as far as non-S&W revolvers go, I would take my 8-inch Colt KC.

Not sure which I would chose between the 586 and KC.

Sorry Springfield fans , but if I could have only 1 .357 revolver , my 5-screw HP would go and my Colt Python would stay.

If I could only have one .357 I would spend the money to have it set up exactly the way I wanted. So that would be an early Smith 586 with a later Mountain Gun barrel screwed on and perfectly blued to match, with a Master Action Job and factory finger groove combat grips.

A model 19 or 66.
They are perfect for the role you mentioned.

Prices depend on condition and what dash you find.
I would say anywhere from $300.00 - $550.00 if in great shape
with box & toools.

If limited to the 4 inch Barrel a Model 28 for me.If I could have ONLY 1 it would be my Model 640 with the sweet trigger job done by my gunsmith........God Bless.......Mike

Not even a hesitation. Model 686, 6 inch barrel and stainless with the black grips rubber. Normally I detest non-wood grips but on this gun they are balanced and feel very good.

Of course I wouldn't turn my nose up at a pair of black, grey and brown laminates on the SS.

My all time favorite for the 1-and-only-1 scenarios is probably the S&W 686+ Mountain Gun. However, they are rather hard to find now-a-days and seem to be getting pretty pricy.

Still, a great 1-size-fits-all choice if you can find one.

Regards,
Dennis

Thanks for the inputs.

Since the revolver will be used in Basic Pistol classes with students in addition to being a range gun for myself, I'm leaning towards a 686-4 in 4" barrel.
