If you could only have one revolver in .357, what model would it be?

I am looking for suggestions on what model S&W I should get.

So far I have decided on a .357 with 4" barrel and target sights although I'll mostly shoot .38 special.

The 686-4 or earlier is high on the list.
I have also seen some nice model 19's.

Any others?

How much should I expect to spend on a nice used model?

You got it right the first time. the 686 is the best .357 Smith makes.

The 686 in 4" is one of my favorites but would have to be hard pressed to give up my 4" 66. Thanks for letting me to voice my opinion. 66er

5" M27. The only S&W I have 2 of.

That is a hard question, I own 7 S&W .357s and would not like to have fewer. A J frame for concealed carry, irresponsible to leave home without it. K-frames in 2.5" - 4" for IPDA matches, bedside companionship and toting in the woods. a 6" N frame for heavy duty load development and to hunt with.

I don't have an L frame but if I could only have one, and it couldn't be a 4" 66, I might just go with a 4" 686.

If you are going to only shoot 38's I think the model 19 is a great gun.I have one with the sweetest trigger pull you could ask for.

That is a tough one. I have a 19, 27 and 28. I would like to add a 586 or 686. But I guess my 27 is my current fav.

Any K,L,or N frame with adjustable sights will serve you well.

If you really are limiting yourself to one, go with the 686. But believe me, after the first one you'll get the bug, and I bet you'll have one of each before you're done.
