what would you have/keep?

In the lovely Garden State, we're required to obtain a Permit to Purchase for each handgun. I applied in November for two additional permits (and yet the Brady Campaign complains that NJ doesn't have a "cooling off period!). They should be issued soon, but I've had scary thoughts like, "What if these are the last two permits I can get...ever?"

What should I buy with my "last" two permits?

I currently have a 686-6 4" and love it. It goes to the range twice weekly and is also my home self-defense gun. I cannot carry in NJ.

I think I'd like a .22 so I can shoot cheaper. 617/17/18?

Which leaves one. Only requirement is that it's a shooter.

Any input? What are the favorites out there?

Love to, but easier said than done. I'm stuck for the time being.

Now, how to make lemonade out of my NJ lemons?

If I could only have 3 guns? Wow That would be like having to give up my children. I hope that never comes to pass. but if I could only have 3 guns 1. would be a tactical shotgun, 2. would be either a high capacity Glock or XDM and 3 would be one of my 18 revolvers. and I can't figure that one out.

1. Don't need a purchase permit for a shotgun. Only handguns.

2. Hi-capacity > 15 rounds not legal here.

3. Since #1 doesn't matter, and you can't have #2, you can choose three of your favorite revolvers!

Which ones??

Sir, since you already have .38/.357 and .22 covered, I'd get a 1911 in .45 ACP: plenty of power, little drama, and easier to conceal than an N-frame.

JMHO, FWIW.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

Since you already have a 686, I would get a 617 then a 3" model 65.

#1 Clark .45 ACP Hardball, part no. HB-45ACP
#2 Clark .38 special, part no. HS-38

#3 S&W model 41 (.22 LR auto)

Sorry, none of my picks would be revolvers.

You've already figured out the need for the 617. Last would be a 629, you decide which barrel and if it's to be Classic or Standard. If you're thinking these may be your last you've got the range pretty well covered with a 22/357/44. Later, if you CAN get more permits, start branching out into the more exotic and/or less common guns or specialties if you like.

1) 1911
2) 686 4in
3) 29 6in
i also say move to a state that wants to be part of the US, but if i could not.

It's ironic that federal and state government efforts to restrict the types of guns we are allowed to own makes me feel the need to own types of guns I might not otherwise even want. (Hypothetically, if they should ever attempt to take away my last gun, I would probably feel the need for it to be one pretty damn substantial and powerful weapon.)

S&W handguns-
M-642
M-18
M-19

Any handguns-
1911
S&W M-18
Glock 19

Any three guns-
Remington 700/308
Remington 1100/1187/870 in Upland Special/20ga
S&W m-18

Here is my recommendation and hope you folks don't send me hate mail over my Springer:

S&W model 34 or 63 4" Mine is a 63 that I haven't taken a pic of. Easier to pack than the 617 and still accurate enough for little critters. Your 686 should suffice for larger game/PP.

Springfield Armory 1911.45. My old (1990)favorite CCW. Carried many different weapons over the years but keep coming back to it. Accurate, powerful and runs like a champ. Feeds all ammo including LSWC's without a hiccup.

Model 17--- Plinking (DBO 1947)
Model 60, DAO, HB, 3 inch BBL, 38 Special--- CCW
Model 28-2, 6 inch. The most accurate handgun I own.---target

It shoots under 3 inch groups @100 yards off a bench on demand.
