Say A new law passed tonight...You woke up and there it was.....You could only keep one gun...Whether it be a pistol, rifle, shotgun..Does not matter....Had to get rid of em all but one....Which one would you keep???? I know it would be impossible and some of you are thinking they would have to pry your guns from your cold dead hands but its just for fun guys... Only One!!!!

For me simple....Heirloom passed on from my Grandfather...His M-1 Garand......Best damn gun ever made.....nothing like the sound of that clip pingin when you fire the last rould...Plus a rifle full of .30-06 rounds will pretty much handle any job in front of you...No shortage of power their...All around best shooter out there in my humble opinion...

Bonjour,
JUST ONE.......it would have to be my 686. It was the first S&W revolver I ever bought and I love it. My wife has now claimed it as her's and I have to sneak it out of the safe when I want to shoot it!!!!

It would without a doubt have to be the only gun that I would consider to be the most valuable under the circumstances that you describe and that would be--------------------drum roll please--------------------------------------------http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=f8d_1197169717 what I would use to change that law.

Sorry guys, I can't get the link to work. It is a Gatling gun on a helicopter.

Why do you want to make people hurt their brains? While you're at it, ask them which child they would keep. LOL
I'm still in my honeymoon phase with my Sig 556 but I would HATE to give up my 460V or Thompson.

I wouldn't comply with the law. Now if times got bad for me I needed to sell all my guns but one. I'd keep my shotgun with its 3 different barrels and 2 stock configrations.

Well, I have a lot more expensive guns, but, down to one? I'd say -- ouch, my head hurts! -- either my Win '94 30-30 or my Model 65. Both of 'em plain vanilla, nothing fancy, but all around useful guns.

I decided to change the rules. I get to keep both!

I would find a good Stevens 311 shotgun, either 12 or 20 gauge, preferably 12, with 26 inch barrel, double triggers. That, in effect, gives me two guns. If one trigger mechanism fails twenty years down the road, the other one will keep the gun useful as a single shot. There is no better defensive weapon than a shotgun for the average person. Slugs give you a little range, buckshot is deadly out to 30 or so yards, and even birdshot is good defensively at in-the-home ranges. I could hunt literally any North American game, including Grizzly.

There is nothing as versatile as a double barrel shotgun. I choose the 311 because there are so many of them around, and if indeed you did have mechanical problems, chances are you could find one to rob parts from.

Of course, my wife would choose a Ruger Vaquero in .45 Colt as her one gun, and my daughter would choose a Model-63 S&W as hers.

Caje, you just ain't no fun this morning, are you?

Would have to check but it would be the one that I had the most ammo for..cause there would probably be a revolt shortly after that law was passed..all5x

You won't get to choose. They will probably let you keep a single shot shotgun, in the rural areas.

I would keep a Remington 870 12 ga., my wife would keep a S&W Model 66 4", and my daughter would keep a Ruger 10/.22. Can the cats keep one each, too?

If that were the case I'd have to discard the notion of recreational and competitive shooting and focus solely in SD. Breaking it down further, in order to cover the most number of situations possible I'd have to go with the one that I'd be most likely to have on me in any given situation.

So that would be the 340PD. It may not be the ideal house gun but it sure beats not having that shotgun on me when I need gun while out and about.

This "Topic" has been Posted more times than I can count. Why don't you just do a 'Search' and add your thoughts to the existing Post. It's also, in my opinion, a very dumb question because it is like asking "Could you shoot someone?" because nobody knows the answer until the time actually comes.

Evertime I see the question it seems a little childish. Like which kid lives. Give me the conditions or facts of the day that I am faceing. I can tell you what fighting handgun or hunting rifle gets the nod etc.
A better question would be you will be in such and such situation, what is the best type gun to have? Also why did you choose that make and model over others.
There are many situations, thats why most of us keep likely firearms to handle them.
I will always keep a basic high powered rifle, a shotgun and a fighting hand gun. Now, I have many of each, and sometimes take awhile to ponder what I am useing today.

So many of mine are passed down from my father, and not "registered" to anyone at all, so I'd be fine if they passed that law.
