If you could only own 1 S&W revolver?

If I could have only one revolver it would be a S&W 4" 44 Mag, blue Mod 29.

I chose the Blue because if I had only one it would get a lot of use and the Blue holds up to a lot of firing better than the others.

I would carry it daily as a concealed gun in my Milt Sparks Summer Special.

When in the field I would carry it in a DE Santis Dual Action Hunter cross draw.

Easy, K38 Target Masterpiece

A great, deadly accurate, everyday shooter that is also suitable as a nightstand gun.

As a matter of fact due to some unforseen finacial circumstances it's the only S&W I currently own.

Yesterday found me at the range with my 627 Pro and 617 10-shooter, both 4"-ers. Also, it was time to shoot my 296 again - this time with wood service boots. They all have a reason or two to consider them, as does my first S&W, a 625MG in .45 Colt - gift from my wife. The utility of .45 ACP is hard to discount - my 625JM is a keeper, too.

The MG is nostalgic - and has thousands of homebrew rounds waiting for it here... but not much in stores locally. The same with that 296, even though it's really for protection - even pocket carry in some cargo pants. The 627 has the benefit of .38 or .357M ammo - available everywhere, when homebrews aren't available. Then there is the 617 - and .22s are available - or were - everywhere. A great plinker. When I run out of homebrew .45 ACPs, I can certainly find them elsewhere. Tough decision.

If some sort of self-defense was required, it'd be one of the above. I guess for a promise of a future in plinking without my homebrew ammo, it'd have to be the .22 rimfires - the 617. Here is mine with the DS-10-Speed speedloader - real fun:

Yeah, I could survive with one of the trio above. Plinking with a .22 really never gets old. I always wonder, what happened to the rest of my revolvers? Will someone else be as nice to them as I was? That worries me... just tell me they weren't 'collected' by Big Brother and smelted into flimsy green-wise people movers...

PS The 296 has it's OEM rubber boots back on it this AM.

This is such a tough question to answer because I have so many great S&W revolvers and I enjoy each and every one of them and I have different uses for each.

K22 with 6 inch barrel is my favorite 22 target gun
M66 no dash with 4 inch barrel - great carry gun
M25-2 with 6 inch barrel is a blast to shoot
M29-2 with 6 Inch barrel is another blast to shoot

I guess if I could keep just one it would be this one because I would want an N frame and seeing I don't own a 4 inch 44 Magnum it would be this 3.5 inch 357 magnum.

My sixgun

In urban area a model 19 or 66 with the 4" barrel, out in the woods a model 29/629 also 4".
Anyway no other handgun is better than a Smith for me.

If I was forced to choose only one, it wouldn't be the most practical or the "prettiest" one I have, but my old Model 58 and I were in some really serious social encounters and we're still here.

This one ain't goin' no where, no how, until I've gone under.

I already own it.....

Last one I'd get rid of, probably, but since this question is such an abstract concept I won't take it seriously, else I'd really be bummed.....

Due to financial circumstances I have been reduced twice in my life to one firearm so I don't really look at the concept as an abstract. :) To me the first and most important job for a firearm to fulfill is self defence. The first time I picked a Charter Bulldog, the second a full size Colt 1911. Nowadays I hope I'm somewhat smarter, so the Shorty .45 would be my one and only now.

Of course that's not a roller so I'm cheating already!

3" M686, shoot heavy .357 or light .38, tube long enough for decent accuracy but short enough to carry if necessary.
