If you had a 659 or similar S&W

I like the looks of wood on a 59. I had a 59 with a set of walnut slabs and the only thing I didn't like was the thickness it added to to gun.

I just bought a set for my 459 from AmbientOutdoors.com for $29.00 + shipping. They look great, fit well. They are slightly thicker than the factory black nylon grips, but feel good to me. The ones I have are smooth, not checkered.

Thanks for the other source, $4 is $4.

The very first pistol I purchased in 1986 was a 659. It came with the 2 black nylon panel grips. I replaced them with synthetic ivory; they looked sweeet against the stainless. With the double stacked magazine it was handful, though, as they were considerably thicker than the originals. Wood looks better on blued guns than stainless IMO. Don't know if I'd bother with Hogue rubber grips unless you have small hands and need a better purchase on the grip.

I have a set of wooden grips for my S&W 559.
But I shoot better with my Uncle Mike's Rubber grips,
compared to my wooden grips, factory plastic grips, and pacymayr's.

I guess its just personal preference.
Here are a few pics of my grips on my 559.

I would in a heartbeat. Wood grips look so much nicer than plastic, IMHO.

With the 59 and 659 (and 559) the wood grips don't add NEARLY as much bulk as the wood grips for the 5906. The 5906 grips wrap around thee back or the grip frame.

I bought a beautiful set of Hogue wood grips for my 5906, but the wood grips were just too big for me.

They sure looked nice, though.

I have a 559 and have Hogue wood and Uncle Mike rubber.....I like the wood better but as others have said, they are a little thicker. The wood looks the best to me and I'm trying to find a set of 59 wood grips. They are a little thinner and will still look good.
