If you own a late model GM truck with the 6.2 motor

Before everyone gets the idea that the 5.3 is bombproof, here's a news flash. It depends. The 5.3 they build today is very different to the engines produced in the early 2000s. I know this, because my 2001 Tahoe developed piston slap in about 40k miles. I ditched it for an Xterra in 2005 thanks to GM's knack of making leather seats that feel like plastic and interior trim of such low quality it would make a QA guy at Mattel cry.
I have a 2000 GMC with the 5.3 at 182,000 miles.
These motors will knock on a cold start and mine is/was no exception.
This is a known phenomenon and not a hinderance.

Toyota has a long history of not so greatness.
Wait a minute….Toyotas are the greatest. They can do no wrong.

If Dodge ever had to replace thousands of frames, you would have never heard the end of it. Almighty Tiyoder gets a pass.

The government and the “anti gunners” have ruined the automotive industry, as well as everything they’ve ever touched.

I have one of the 2024 Silverados with the L87 engine. It is on the recall list needing an inspection. 13,000 miles and no issues as of yet.
I talked to my local dealership, and they seem to be in the dark, saying GM has not provided any insight as to when, or how they are to proceed. Saying it would likely be another month or so before they are given definitive guidance. They also said the vehicle "is safe to drive".
I'm not comfortable with that statement.

32 years on Mopar service drive and the last 17 on GM service drive. I had a very short stint on a Ford drive also. Government and consumer say get the MPG up and Emissions down. New emission standard this year, forget about fixing last year's mistakes, we will create new one's for the new model year. Diesel emission systems don't work at altitude, oh well they are not a big enough market to worry about. The new government want's electric so let's forget about making quality gasoline burners and concentrate on EV's. My blood pressure is on the rise. For my own piece of mind, I bought a 24 Silverado 2500 with the 6.6 gas engine. It has no adaptive fuel management, that burns oil and fouls. It has no stop to start, hard on lifters, camshafts, alternators and batteries. It does have the mock a Allison 10 speed with the valve body issues and it does use 0W20 thin oil. It is my retirement truck so I have my fingers crossed. 20250327_173929.jpg

There's a lot of speculation, conspiracy theories, and ignorance around this issue and its identification and repair. We've got a 2024 Yukon XL with a 6.2 that was produced 10 days outside the recall population, very thankful for that. This thread has a lot of discussion on oil viscosities, bad parts, DFM (AFM was replaced on this generation), direct injection, etc.

A little off topic. But I purchased a totaled 2018 Camaro and transplanted the 6.2L LT1/8L90 into my 1972C10. Made the swap in 2019 and been purring ever since. I thought you guys might enjoy.

Dumb bean counters thinking they can save $3 a unit by reducing time required to scrub blocks clean. This misguided philosophy has infested what used to be world class manufacturing - Toyota, Boeing, BMW, etc….
