If you were starting a Smith Collection what would be your first 10 guns..

I don't have a wish list or a top ten, I just buy perfect examples as I find them and I figure there is plenty of time down the road to decide what I like and don't like. A lot of the time I'll buy gun I'm really not interested in but then I find myself very interested once I own it then I pursue like items. Participation it's what's makes you good Smith and Wesson collector. I have guns in my collection 10 years ago I was not remotely interested in but now I am. Example of that would be Nib New Departure I have,, it's actually a favorite of mine and I'm a hand ejector guy. If you buy quality original vintage guns you really can't collect the wrong thing. Your taste will change over time but if lose interest in a certain gun, just put it in the back of the safe and forget about it. Somehow your interest always seems comes back sooner or later.

I couldn't care less what another collector might like.
I couldn't care less about trying to create a representative collection. That would mean filling spots with guns possessing no great personal appeal.
I simply buy what I like.If the gun doesn't say,"Take me home"...what's the point? If it doesn't give me a tingle, why spend the money.

Cam,

This is not about spending money. The question is not really about collecting. It is personal and has nothing to do with filling spots. The question is if you had nothing as a gun guy and were starting over with nothing given what you know now and this is not about value (high dollar item vs. low dollar item), what would be your first 10 guns in the Smith and Wesson line that represents what you think is the finest items ever made. Okay the first 10 that say take me home and give you a tingle… This question is about your choices on a personal level.. What would be the first 10 you would take home if someone said time to go get your first 10 and get whatever you want? This thread has bee really interesting given the various choices… There are no wrong answers…

It is interesting what Smith owners see as the best.. Some are practical shooters others are into historic examples. I want to thank everyone for showing your "stuff" and sharing your choices for the best guns… Your answers have given me for one lots to think about when it comes to what are the best Smiths out there. I say keep them coming!! Thanks L
