Ditto. I see a pretty darned nice looking old 22LR target.
Unless you overpaid a BUNCH how could that be a mistake?

I think that the mistake must have been not including a range report?

Looks like maybe the serial was ground off the butt? Serial still on cylinder and barrel flat? I would stamp correct number on grip frame.

Or is it something else?

That would explain pro looking stamp but not S&W.

Congrats on the K32 (my assumption is you will post other picture??). I don't know what you paid for the auctioned off K32, but a prewar it is a very rare gun. I was lucky to find on back in 2014. Mine is a little later at SN 677331 with a HBH and red dot king sight.

actually it looks like an early K22, but I think the Op must have a K#@ he bought is my best guess and miss posted. Not sure but thought it was a great time to post my Prewar..

5 digit # on that late '30s vintage gun is clearly a mistake.

Do all the #s match in all 6 locations?

That serial # was factory stamped by S&W.

I don't know of any cases where BATFE stamped the new #, and even if they did, it won't look that good. They just authorize the # to be stamped.

Very, very seldom are they stamped as straight as those. AND never with that correct font!

The butt looks ground down as typical with removed serials. Note the stocks are too long now.

I thought the stamp was other than S&W but I keep saying I am no expert.
