Illinois bill to ban "assault weapons"

"Long-time anti-gun Senator Julie Morrison (D-Deerfield) has introduced SB107, a bill to ban so-called "assault weapons". "

I'm in her district and she's already gotten a " what are you doing ?!?" email from me.

He will do what his Chicago bosses order him to do.
All I can say is Move Out of that state as I did 6 years ago.

It will be interesting as to what they consider an assault weapon. Could it include black plastic handguns that most permit owners carry?

Il gun owners have my sympathy seems they are going to get nailed again.

It's almost word-for-word the same as the TRO'd Deerfield ban.

Even target pistols and semi auto shotguns are not immune if they have two of those evil features like a removable magazine and muzzle device, I kid you not. I guess that S&W target model Victory is now an assault weapon.
And this proposed bill is even better, they want you to give up all your social media accounts and passwords to the ISP when you apply or renew your FOID card so they can scrutinize them before issuing.

Assault is as assault does. Could be a ball peen hammer.
Im sure there is a lot more of this legislation coming down the pike.

My prediction was when the ban passed here the other states will follow one at a time. Does anyone have a list of states that either passed it or are pursuing it? Aw or large mags.

New York has a ban on Semi-automatic rifles with more than ONE of the list of options that include, removable magazines, pistol grips, threaded barrel for or with muzzle break etc., vertical forend. Pretty much anything that could be fired single handedly with reduced muzzle jump and reloaded easily. If you owned any prior to 2013 and registered them by the end of 2014, you were grandfathered.

A thumbhole stock on a Ruger 10/22 or a threaded muzzle disqualifies it, but handguns are not covered at all.

Here in FL, there is a strong movement to get a AW ban proposal on the 2020 ballot. Supporters of the ban are gathering signatures and will probably get the 300K (?) to get on the ballot just from So.FL. If it makes the ballot, it will pass. Most of the state is Red, but that southern tip of the state is deep Blue and will swing the state that way.

I have contacted my IL state senator & representative yesterday expressing my strong opposition to IL SB0107. It's not that hard. Get on your legislator's website (type in their name to find it) & their email address will show up. I got a response (not a generic response) from my rep within 5 minutes. Lots of my Facebook friends bitching about it, but bitching alone doesn't let your representatives know your views.

Huh. Guess that gets all the gun owners off Facebook. Talk about potential for litigation: Just what constitutes a "social media account" ? There's real 1st, 2nd and 4th amendment issues with this one.
Want a FOID? Well we're going to chill your 1st Amendment right to speak freely.

Feel free to contribute to the ISRA and NRA. This is another one going to SCOTUS, and litigation ain't cheap.

Lucky you. I got bupkis from Sen. Morrison. Both she and my state rep are pretty rabid anti-gunners.

Yep, calls and e-mails going out. Sent another check to ISRA. Just joined GOA too with a donation on top. These reps are nothing more than useful pawns for the Bloombergs, etc. An "acquaintance" has really been digging into the financial backing and tax returns for several groups like moms demand action, mayors against illegal guns, every town for gun safety, march for our lives, etc. and they are nothing more than front groups for Bloomberg's ideals. They receive a lot of their financing from him. It's time to start hammering these reps and ask them if they really want his NWO ideals running OUR government.
Unfortunately for us, the bored housewives and unknowing public fall for the assault weapon and weapons of war tag lines they assign to common firearms most of us enjoy responsibly. They start or join these groups thinking they're doing something useful, but in reality they're just being used by a much bigger power driven agenda. They "thrive" on tragedy, without it they would wither. Kinda sad if you really think about it.
