Gun owners could carry concealed weapons in Illinois, the last state in the nation to prohibit it, under legislation that swept through the House Friday with the backing of the powerful Democratic speaker from Chicago, a city torn by violence despite what critics claim are the nation's toughest firearms restrictions.

The historic 85-30 vote would allow the carrying of concealed guns, a legislative task compelled by a federal appeals court ruling and precipitated by House Speaker Michael Madigan's turnabout

THIS HAS BEEN A LONG HARD FOUGHT BATTLE.....BUT we never gave up!!!

The bill has only passed the House. It now has to get thru the Senate. The Senate President and the governor are opposed to the bill as it passed the House. It's still a ways from making it to law.
And, Yes, I know about the June 9 deadline.

Being allowed to carry a firearm is one thing, being allowed to use it in self defense without a prison term is another. I wouldn't be dancing in the streets just yet.

I sure do not miss living in that state! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you people down there especially selfishly since I have to drive through frequently. I'd love to be able to carry!

The June 9 clock is ticking. We'll soon know the outcome but Madigan voting yes is a BIG deal.

Hope it works out for you guys and gals in Illinois
but as stated, don't count your chickens yet.
Remember, this is a state where the dead often
show up to vote at the polls and such.

As it stands now I read somewhere its going to cost a few hundred dollars and require several hours of training.... the light is coming in around the door... but your foot is not quite in yet.

Woo Hoo!!!! I'm going to start carrying today, what should I get? I do not need to take a class or get a permit do I?

:)

Yep, I'm still not holding my breath...not in this state with King Madigan, Prince Rahm, and Idiot Quinn....get me out of here.

and don't forget the mess-I aaaahhh! hence my location, don't worry they think us down staters are the tally-ban. We prolly have Pave Hawks circling already.....billy

The real significance of the bill that went thru the House is that in addition to the CCW provision it also removes all home rule gun laws in IL. That means no more assault weapon bans in Chicago/Cook, no registration, mag restrictions, etc. I believe that will be the hold up in the Senate and gov's office and the House bill as passed will be modified and sent back to the House. Cullerton and Quinn won't allow those provisions to fly.
Madigan changing his position on CCW and allowing the home rule override has nothing to do with Madigan suddenly changing his mind about CCW. Madigan doesn't change his mind that quickly nor that much. That's just not the history of Madigan. Madigan first does what's good for Madigan. So why did he do a 180 on CCW? His little girl is going to run in the primary against Quinn. Quinn has the largest voting block tied up - Chicago. For Lisa M to beat Quinn in the primary she has to carry all the other counties by a large margin over Quinn. By Madigan 'suddenly' becoming a CCW supporter and Quinn maintaining his anti-CCW/anti-gun position Madigan hopes that Lisa M will pull the more conservative democrat vote. Madigan is still anti-gun but he's just more pro-Madigan in the governor's office and whatever it takes for him to make that happen he's going to do.

I'm thinking Madigan vote yes because he fears the June 9 cliff and "some" kind of restriction is better than none in his mind. We'll see how it all pans out but the cliff is fast approaching.
