I just bought a brand-new S&W 629 Performance Center V-Comp. I finally got to the range today and it is hitting 18" high at 50 yards with the rear sight bottomed out. I tried 3 different brands of ammo and had two other guys also shoot it. We all had the same result.
I don't know if it's relevant or not but the bottom of the underlug on the barrel is a few hundredths of an inch away from the frame almost like barrel is screwed into the frame at a slightly upward angle. If that is true, that would explain why it's shooting so high.
I have e-mailed S&W to get a return authorization to send the gun back for them to look at. I know they'll make it right but I'm just bummed that I have to go through the hassle of sending it back.
