I'm happy for you Carl :D

As a Modesty Blase fan, i'd chose "Princess" :D

My cat doesn't have a name yet :o and still very scared at times
but sometimes he has to do the petting/grooming on me

Now sit still.. this won't hurt...:p

Carl:

I am so happy for you. I was hoping you wouldn't wait too long to let another kitty adopt you!! As others have said, it might be a good idea to spend a little time with kitty (Gunsmoke ?..."Miss Kitty"?) before naming her. Not that I don't think that we could do a good job of picking a name, but my first thought is that that important chore is something that only you and Kitty can work out between you.

When "Bella" first came to live with me, I got with the GF and she was on speakerphone with her sister, who was reading names out of a book of cat names, and when she got to "Bella", I shouted "that's it!"... I grew up in an Italian community, and of course, "Bella" is a form of "beautiful".

This is my favorite "Glamour" photo of Bella.

Anyway, this naming business needs to be carefully worked out, you guys will have to live with it for a long time.

I suggest High Pockets.

A friend once name my freshly acquired young cat that. High Pockets was a good cat. However, I did not learn about the WW II underground hero who used that name until reading about her in a current Lounge thread.

The new kitty is lucky to get such a good home.

I believe High Pockets was also the cooks cats name in The Undefeated

I went on a hike with my wife and I told her that you were getting a new kitty and asked advice on a name for her.
Her advice was to let her name herself, saying," Whatever name they come with is fine for their birth certificate and vet. records. The name you call them for the rest of their lives, trust me, they will earn that."

Sandy, on the left is also called, "Pukey", 'cuz sometimes she gulps her food and it comes right back out, "Cuddles", 'cuz she's a cuddle cat, "Head Cat", 'cuz she jumps on the bed and walks on our heads every morning and "Basket Case", 'cuz she likes to sleep in the laundry basket.
Sarah, on the right is also called, "Princess" and "Penthouse", 'cuz she's a diva and can sing.

Then there's Natayo:

We named him the Blackfoot word for "Cat", 'cuz when he came to us he didn't have a name. He's also known as "The little monster", 'cuz he get's into mischief and can get kinda curmudgeonly at times and "Fluffy", 'cuz he's kinda fluffy.

When we got Zachary his name was "Dupa" the german word for "Butt" and that wouldn't do. We renamed him "Zachary" 'cuz he just looked like a cat that'd be named Zachary:

However, when we got Natayo, they became buddies and we called them "Skipper" and "Gilligan":

When we lost Zachary:

Poor Natayo moaned around the house for a week, that's when we got the girls.

All three of them get along well:

We have a "cookie", a "Chloe", a "silo", and a "shadow", all named by my kids. Next cat we get, I'm naming her "Louise" after my Mom. When I was in the Navy, I had a married friend whose wife had a pair of cats, male and female that she named "George" and "Weezy" from the "Jeffersons". Yep...they were a pair of black cats, not PC, I know...but I always thought "Weezy" or "Louise" was a cool name for a female cat, even more so since it was my Moms' name.

Don't forget what T. S. Eliot had to say about the naming of cats. It is not any easy chore:

"The Naming Of Cats

The Naming of Cats is a difficult matter,
It isn't just one of your holiday games;
You may think at first I'm as mad as a hatter
When I tell you, a cat must have THREE DIFFERENT NAMES.
First of all, there's the name that the family use daily,
Such as Peter, Augustus, Alonzo or James,
Such as Victor or Jonathan, George or Bill Bailey—
All of them sensible everyday names.
There are fancier names if you think they sound sweeter,
Some for the gentlemen, some for the dames:
Such as Plato, Admetus, Electra, Demeter—
But all of them sensible everyday names.
But I tell you, a cat needs a name that's particular,
A name that's peculiar, and more dignified,
Else how can he keep up his tail perpendicular,
Or spread out his whiskers, or cherish his pride?
Of names of this kind, I can give you a quorum,
Such as Munkustrap, Quaxo, or Coricopat,
Such as Bombalurina, or else Jellylorum-
Names that never belong to more than one cat.
But above and beyond there's still one name left over,
And that is the name that you never will guess;
The name that no human research can discover—
But THE CAT HIMSELF KNOWS, and will never confess.
When you notice a cat in profound meditation,
The reason, I tell you, is always the same:
His mind is engaged in a rapt contemplation
Of the thought, of the thought, of the thought of his name:
His ineffable effable
Effanineffable
Deep and inscrutable singular Name."

Im thinking of Jenniffer, Susie, or and any good name.

Well, we have a Jennifer who helps kitties who are in need, and is known here on the forum as a caring cat lover; and we have a susie, who is a new cat lover who had shared her experience bonding with her new kitty,....so either of these names would certainly be appropriate!!!

I still say that you need to consult with kitty to see what she says!!

Best Regards, Les
