I'm curious

To the OP .. not trying to be rude at all, but you have a NRA and a NAVY banner next to your user name, and you dont know how an AR-15 works? Something doesnt jive there to me. Like I said not trying to be rude, just a bit confused. So many people are buying these weapons, and no idea what they have. It is actually a little scary. Is this your 1st personal weapon? None the less, welcome to the forum.

I have alot of pistols and rifles and shot guns and i hunt alot. Now i have a 15T. first AR. And I just bought it because OBAMA dont want to have one. Now that I have it and have shot about 75 rounds I'm glad I have it and want to learn more about it. Thats why I'm here.

Well you have came to the right place!:)Glad to have you aboard.

So ivplay, I am curious, are you a shellback or a wog? BTW- I am a Navy brat. My dad was CPO E-7 21 years old school Navy. You know that Navy- the one that did not like long hair and sideburns! Just sayin.:)

I am a Shellback. 1974- 1980, MM2 I was in the engine room most of my time on board. Went on 2 westpac tours. Stationed mostly out of San Diego

Dad was a shellback plus a polar bear. He worked on carriers in catapault and arresting gear. He has told me several stories. He retired when I was 15. I never went in because I felt I had done my time as well. I was in 15 schools by the time I was 14. I was sick of moving. I have seen both oceans and my sister was born in Rota, Spain. Needless to say, my parents house has all kinds of curios from all over the world. Dad was stationed in San diego for 3 years. He did sea duty there. The best year of my life was spent on Coronado beach. I have my dad's old cruise books as well. And yes, Dad is still kicking!

:D

Ok makes a little more sense. You came to the right forum. The people who frequent are knowledgable and friendly. Sorry if I was rude, but we have LOTS of people asking questions about these weapons, and it seems they havent even researched the most basic of information about what they have in their hand. That is a very nice AR you got yourself, so again welcome to the forum, and enjoy!! :D

Welcome to the forum by the way, IV. Seeing more and more of us VA people in here.

I've lurked around this forum for a while so it's only fitting one of my first posts is to say hello to fellow members of the Commonwealth.

Welcome IV and I can tell you even though I haven't responded, the folks in here have exponentially helped me in my understanding of that platform to include mods I have done to my 15T.

Keep shooting, stay safe, and have fun.

The Mini 14 is also supposedly a piston system. I really like the fact that I can run 200 rounds through her and she really doesnt get dirty. Not near like my Sport does, plus takes about 1/4 the time to clean. It is really cool to unlock the trigger guard and totally disassemble the rifle.

First welcome to the forum. If you are unfamiliar with how to operate, disassemble and reassemble you need to learn this before you shoot your AR. First thing you should do is clean it especially inside the barrel where there will be shipping oil - preservative to keep it from rusting if it sat in storage for awhile which I am sure yours hasn't as they are sold as fast as they come in to gun stores. There is plenty of info about them on the internet, I would buy a book about them so you can see how it is assembled and how it works and how to properly maintain. It will also give the correct terminology for each part. There is more to guns then just buying and shooting. Be safe read up on it before you shoot and familiarize yourself about your new firearm. Also remember not all AR's fire 5.56 ammo your will shoot both .223 and 5.56. You may already know some of this but I just wanted to remind you about it. Have fun and be safe.
