I'm Going Backwards

I seem to be transiting from Semi-autos to S&W Revolvers and now into Single Action Revolvers. While everyone else is out buying tacticool semi-auto rifles & pistols for the end of the world (items that once occupied my safe), I'm going back to a simpler time. I guess it's just an area I know little about and like to learn. I now have 3 Ruger SA's and a Cimarron Frontier in the pipeline.

Anyone else on this journey? Don't be affraid to post pics.

If my experience is any gauge on this subject, I don't think you are alone. Folks are usually amazed to hear that of all my holster orders 57% are for revolvers. The S&W J-frames alone account for nearly 30%, closely followed by the N, L, and K-frames. Colts are popular as well (Python, Trooper, Cobra/Det. Spl., Diamondback).

The Colt Single Action Army and Ruger single action revolvers are always busy in my shop.

There hasn't been a new semi-auto pistol in the last 20 years that has come close to any of the popular revolvers, at least in terms of holster demand coming my way.

I've always like all handguns, but mostly revolvers.
I'm seeing many young gunners that started with black/tacticool semis are looking toward and appreciating revolvers as well. That's a good sign for our future.

I have both semis and a revolver. I like the semi for capacity and ease of firing, but when the day comes when I have to shoot from my death-bed it will be that J-frame revolver.

I find shooting revolvers at the range more enjoyable. It takes more time, so you get to enjoy being outside, shoot less ammo and don't kill my back searching for that brass. I must find every last one! Yes, we have brooms and I have a pick up tool but it's so easy to blast through 100 rounds or more even shooting slow with those semi autos.

In my opinion you are moving up instead of going backwards. Revolvers are 1 and 2 whether SA or DA. Autos are somewhere down about 15 or 20. Larry

I'm doing the same thing. In fact, I almost started my own thread about it.

I think that as you age you put more of a value on things that function and aren't much of a hassle.

After a life time of combat style 1911 customs, I now do not own any of them. Both my dedicated CCW firearms arre J-frames.

Dont feel bad about it. I just bought a Ruger mk2 govt model to use in my clubs bowling pin shoots.Only to find out that I can shoot my K-22 in single action with the same speed or faster.I was allready winning with the K-22 so I figured I would really clean up with the Ruger.Well that was a fun but expensive mistake.

I carry a S&W M&P 45 as my duty sidearm and bet my life and well being on that sidearm. But the vast majority of my accumulation are revolvers. There is just something about them that calls to me. I cannot turn away once they start. Sigh.

I'm in the same boat my friend. Maybe i'm just a dinosaur
or whats today considered "old school". I just enjoy my
wheelguns much more than semi-autos. Like Rule3, i enjoy
taking my time and enjoying my shooting rather than just
simply seeing how quickly a person can (dump a mag).
It should always be "making the first shot count" in my
humble opinion. Not knocking semi-autos as i have owned
many fine weapons of the like. I just prefer the revolver.
When my life or loved ones lives are in danger i'll have a
revolver or two in the waistband.

My first handgun was a Glock 19 23 or 24 years ago!

My last purchase was a S&W 625.

Frankly, I fell like I too am going backward, I like Glock's for their capacity, the 1911 for its weight and range comfort, 22's for their economy and now I am gradually replacing everthing with revolvers for their beauty.

I missed out on the S&W 3rd generation era, I think I would have really liked a 3914TSW as a grail gun.

I think I too will try single actions, I probably will sell my auto's and try reloading for 44 special rugers.

23 handguns and only 2 of them are bottom feeders. High Standard supermatic citation and one of the WWI 1911 remakes that Colt did a short run of a few years back

I just bounce around.
This year I bought a S&W M15 snub, a flintlock and a bolt-action .22 rifle.
Last year a .22 conversion for an AR clone.
Before that it was a .41 Magnum year.

Got Smiths, Colts, pocket pistols, some foreign, Ruger revolvers including SAs, other this and thats.
Don't have any real idea what will catch my eye next although
a .41 at a good price will always get my attention.

Couldn't say it any better than chud333. I'm back to revolvers since going all semi-auto in 1989. In my 34th year on this job, I'm enjoying being the old guy with the lumber sticking out of the holster. I had surgery this year on both thumbs because of severe arthritis... I was having difficulty pulling the slides back with any reliability. It's still not easy, so going back in time gun-wise was the way to go. It's working out great! Plus, getting back in the collecting hobby has been fun as well. I'm not getting anything all that rare, but it's still a blast to bring home the kinds of stuff I had back in the '70s and '80s. I think I'm up to 20 or so handguns, with a dozen or so Smith revolvers. Even the Mrs. is interested!
Yep, makes getting older a LOT more fun...
