I read this this morning and immediately several questions came to mind:

1) Who stocks this much 7.62x51/ .308?
2) Who sold this quantity of ammo to a couple of fellows without a single question?
3) Where did they get the cash for 180K rds @ about $1/rd?
4) Why were they moving it from Utah to Pueblo Co? A BBQ maybe?
5) Where did they get a van capable of carrying almost 3 tons in a single load? I once stacked 13,500 rds of 9mm ball against the tailgate of my S-10 and the front wheels hardly touched the pavement.
I forget #6 but I'm sure there is another "Hmmm..." available. Joe

Having visited Mexico a few times, I find the answer to #5 rather simple. The van is only full when one more box stops you shutting the door. Weight? Who's measuring weight?

Sales of ammo to non-immigrant aliens is a funny subject. When I had that status with a hunting license and thus was allowed to possess firearms and ammo, I don't recall ever being asked in a store to prove my status. No doubt being a middle aged white guy with an English accent helped. "Oh good, a converted Englishman who likes guns. Welcome aboard." Hmmm indeed if you think about it.

Online? By making the purchase you are stating that you are eligible to possess ammo. If you're not, you are committing all kinds of offenses starting with false representation and I suspect wire fraud.

I love those vehicle equipment type stops. One would think those up to no good would be more careful.
Works really well with drunks and druggies. :)

I remember an interview with a career criminal where he said, "Never commit more than one crime at a time." I.E. don't transport illegal items in a vehicle that is itself illegal. I'm sure that expired tags has led to many major crimes arrests.

Timothy McVeigh might have got clean away but for issues with his vehicle.
