lets see .. we are up to 101 years of service from an essentially unchanged design having a track record in that time frame that is stuff of legend give or take the inevitable lemon.
we've seen glock related AD's and ND's as well as KB's posted many times over. Now Im sure that the 1911 has had its fair share of these as well Even the SAA colt has its faults (need for an empty chamber as well as some KB's to its credit) these are all machines, man made and not delivered on the wings of cherubs from the heavens above, thus all subject to failure.
when I searched for a weapon to fill the defensive pistol slot, I chose caliber first, and let the designs chambered for that caliber speak for themselves. as you whittle it down to the last 4 or 5 guns, it gets into some real nit picky details between the 1911, XD, Glock, M&P, and USP. the 1911 won for its thin profile, near infinite parts support for customization and repair, near endless holster options, and its system of safeties which lends well to its use by my far less gun savvy than I, wife, if ever she needs to use it.
even with a shorter list of criteria, thin profile, holsters, and safety still puts it on top.
whats left to debate ...
I'm off to finish building a preamp .. rock on folks
