I've had a lot more down time due to the pandemic and have done a fair amount of self-reflection. I've come to the realization that there are certain areas of my life that need some attending to, with my online conduct being a major disappointment. I've been an egotistical and condescending jerk on more than one occasion and just wanted to offer my apology for my disrespectful behavior to those whom I have offended and make a promise that I will try to do better in future interactions. Thank you.

I haven't noticed anything untowards about your posts but it speaks volumes for you to express remorse for any hurtful comments you might have made
.
Five years ago I made a similar public apology for letting my emotions and baser self lead me into a short textual skirmish here that got out of hand.

I was ashamed for it and it has reminded me to really step back and think before I respond.

Your post shows character.

Don't be too hard on yourself. There were times when you shared a different point of view which is a good thing.

Many of us here have had our hand slapped. We deserved it. Especially me. I'm known to be opinionated, abrasive, and blunt. I always try to be honest and factual. But with that in mind, I sometimes think that while being honest and factual, that gives me the right to be a jerk.

Tell your wife thanks! ;)

WELL, IT'S ABOUT TIME YOU APOLOGIZED! Just kidding. It's not easy being a person. It actually can be quite lonely even when in a crowd. Even when we are doing our best, we tend to miss the mark. Your apology is accepted for whatever you think you did wrong. Please accept my apology for my past, present and future phopas.

Congratulations to you on your self-awareness.

I guess I've been lucky in that from decades of dealing with publicly recorded documents I've learned the permanence of putting pen to paper (now I guess it's putting electrons to computer screen) and managed to avoid a number of cases of "foot-in-mouth" disease.

You and I have had more than one exchange/difference of opinion. That's what these are about. I never would have listed you as egotistical or condescending. A firm believer in what you're talking about, absolutely.

The difference between someone who's egotistical and one who's not, is the ability to see one's self and realize that improvements can be made.

In martial arts, the color white signifies emptiness or lack of knowledge. The color black signifies fullness and knowledge. So we all start as white belts and as we gain knowledge/skill, the color darkens until it is black. An egotistical black belt believes he has reached the pinnacle once the black belt is achieved and stops learning. A true black belt keeps going. It's only when they reach black that they realize how much they don't know. As the black belt keeps training and learning the belt becomes worn and the white threads underneath start to show through again. It demonstrates that the more we know, the more we know we don't know.

You sir are obviously still learning, still trying to get better. The mark of a true black belt. Keep going. You have my respect.

I, too, have been known to "grind the craws" of some here, especially the "old cantankerouses" that make up the bulk of this board.

But one can be redeemed and understanding of others and there opinions and we can all have a great time here.
