Hi yall. I looked at a new Airweight 442 38+P at my neighborhood gunshop this morning for $489, am thinking about getting it for ccw. Anybody think it's a bad choice? It sure weighs alot less than my 4" 686 that I love. Thanks. :D

Buds has them for $432 with shipping included and no sales tax, but you will have to pay your LGS a fee to process the paper work. (Mine only charges $20). Keep in mind you will also have to pay sales tax on the $489 which will bring the price well over $500. I understand wanting to support your LGS, but for me, but I have to think of my wallet too and there is a limit to how much profit I think he is entitled to.

I pocket carry a 442 all summer, it's light and easy to conceal, a all around great CCW

Love it!

I picked up my 442 no-lock about four months ago or so. I has become my favorite light weight carry. I'm pretty sure you will be very happy with it if you get one.

Thanks,

Rick

Thanks everyone. It does sound like a great little gun. The one I'm looking at has no internal lock. A lower price sounds great, but I like going to my gunshop because he works with me on payments. Thanks again! Carole :D

I love my 442. It's like my American Express card........................don't leave home without it.

(I agree....great stocks)

The 442 is probably the MOST popular carry gun. Lock can be eliminated or made inoperative. DO support your local gun shop. They will be the people to help you more than the online sellers. I have in the past and will in the future pay my local shop a slightly higher price, but I always get what I want, when I want it.

I work at a local gun shop/range and wanted to let you know the 442 and 642 with NO LOCK are a catalog item from smith and can be ordered anytime. Ask your dealer. We order about 10 a month with no locks. Order one with out the lock and dont think twice. Exellent choice for carry BTW!

I agree on the 442, great carry gun. I sold mine several months ago when I thought I was moving to California. When I get a new one I think I'll go next time with the 642 as I didn't like trying to keep the black finish on the 442 clean......probably just my inexperience however.

442...642...Both great choices but trust me, if you carry either for any long amount of time they both will wear. No matter how you carry. But they really werent designed with athstetics in mind. But dont fret, I just adds character. :) I would be wary of the 642 though. It has a clear coat on them and it will wear/flake off over time and IMO looks worse than the 442 when worn.

Mine has been daily pocket carry since about 1996. One of these days there will be no finish left on it but it's a first class tool. Where I go, it goes.

Do the 442s not have that same clear coat that the 642s have?
