Along with the Rock Island Armory, there's also ATI that makes a very good 1911 for the same price. Well, it did a few years ago. I gave mine to my son; it still has had no problems, besides the two times that spring cap flew off never to be found on my basement floor.

I added a new gun with the last free money they sent from DC. Exact amount of check and gun. Our big spring show is next week end and my son is already asking what new gun am I buying with the DC free money. Looking on the tables next week in will be fun and I can always spend the money on a couple of bricks of 22lr Thunderbolts if I do not find a gun that looks great.

$$$ came in today and first look at Buds shows a Ruger AM-C in 45 for not bad money but just does not grab me. A few 1911s for more money but no commander size which I would prefer.

Of all the guns in 45 ACP I have owned, I never had one that wasn't fun! But my favorite is the 625 (series of 1989) The hardest to find is the Marlin carbine. They are not that rare, but nobody wants to sell them! (they are discontinued!)

Made myself a promise a while back, (before all this), that due to my age and already bulging inventory, I was done buying guns. The owner of my LGS just snorts, "Sure you are." Well, there was a Sig 229 in 357sig in the used gun showcase, and if they had ammo for it, I would've broken my promise. Checked the interwebs, Natchez had 50rd boxes of 124gr TMJ, $62.99 each. That did it, much as I would've liked taking the plunge, hard pass on the Sig.

I can certainly vouch for the SIG mentioned earlier. I have one of the earlier imports and it is extremely easy to use. One 45 I did not see in the list above was the Norinco 1911A1 "knockoff". Certainly not a "knockoff" as the metal used in the slide and frame is superb. I was lucky to pick one up for a song many years ago, and people still think that I have an old Colt 1911A1 until they read the maker's name. I think that these were banned from importation many years ago (Clinton admin?). Dave_n

I would suggest a Ruger LW Commander. Super weight and balance and a decent 50 yd gun. If you don't want to pick up brass a 625-8 PC is a great gun. I have both. Enjoy both.
